do i need to buy turntables?
im really not interested at scratching but i want to get the advantages of going forward or back in a song.. do i need turtables? and if you think i do what are some good cheap turtables to buy? (no more than 100$)

your gonna get different answers from every dj…
DJ #1 (started on Vinyl) will say yes, cuz you need to learn the basics
DJ #2 (started on CDJ) will say no, and to learn on cdjs
DJ 3 (started on Digital) will say no, cuz they are new and still learning
DJ 3 will say, well look at the top djs, they use Traktor, SSL and Ableton…why cant i? Well 1st, those top djs have paid their dues and either started on vinyl or cdjs (this excludes dj that are producers).

If you need to ask, the answer is no. Same goes for all gear.
You should have already in your mind what you want to be able to accomplish as a DJ/controllerist. You should then tailor your set-up to suit.
For me, the only reason to buy new gear, is when the gear I already have is stopping me progressing further. OR, when a piece of gear is released that will allow me to expand on what I already do, or allow me to do something I’ve always wanted to be able to do.

You’ll never find a GOOD pair of turntables for that money. And no, you don’t need them. Assuming we’re talking about a laptop based setup here, you’d also need a Digital Vinyl System like Traktor Scratch Pro or Serato with a certified sound card, and that alone will cost you much more than $100.
