yes
No ![]()
Honestly it’d be nice but not essential.
You dont NEED a macbook pro, but they are certianly elite for a reason
You could buy a laptop with twice the specs and spent the same amount of money but a shitload more time optimizing it and worrying if its going to be stable.
Not essential, but industry standard for a reason bro.
No. But it’s all up to you, do you want to be jizzing in your pants when you boot it up for the first time or do you wanna be like “Meh.” ? Do you want the industry standard (as previously mentioned) or something labeled as “budget” ? And last but not least when you take your laptop to school/work who do you want swarming around you ? Girls admiring the amazing design and light up apple or computer geeks asking questions about memory and write speed of your HDD ?
Like I said, it’s all up to you.
-Sincerely a MBP user.
No.
And it seems like ur issue is weather or not to save up and get a MBP or a cheaper windows based machine and the new NI controller. I think u get more bang for ur buck doing the latter. Ya Mac’s are nice this is true, but if u have any basic computer knowledge optimizing and keeping a windows based machine stable for running traktor isn’t as daunting as you may think. And i think that option would be more cost effective for u since u seem to be on a budget.
i’ve been to shows where Macs have crashed. so they are not invincible.
i had a dell xps and never had a problem with it. it all depends on the user. i no longer have the dell as i have upgraded .
i got my Asus k53 w/ i7 quadcore 8gb of ram, and +$140 for a 128gb SSD all for about $900. vs $1700 for a Mac with the same specs w/o an ssd. all i keep on it is traktor/reason/presonus studio one. i have not had a problem with it.
specs of an MBP are not worth the price you will pay. get the best you can with the money you have. and don’t download anything that isn’t pertinent. or find/write a script to have your PC run smoother for Dj’ing or research how OS’s work and install a different OS
no.
smelling a mac vs pc thing here..
Honest answer from a mac fanboy: no.

No but remember macs are stable because detail is taken when building them the hardware they put in them. I will likely never buy a Mac because they are over priced and if you know a fair bit can far surpass their performance with a pc based laptop. They also do not come with bloatware. If you go pc route get a copy of windows that it has a serial key for and reformat it so you don’t have a bunch of junk you don’t need running or on it.
First thing I do when I sell someone a laptop is reformat and only put essentials on it. For me that’s office adobe creative suite and traktor I also suggest getting a solid state.
I would go as far to say buy a decent asus laptop but a ssd in it and don’t look back. My 14inch 2.7ghz i7 8gb ram 240gb ssd out performs any Mac I boot with traktor loaded in under 20seconds

From what i’ve read mac hardware is or was one of the cheapest.
Short Answer: No…
But: take it from someone who works at a dj store. We have recently added our own geek squad type thing because working with asio is such a pain in the ass. almost on a daily basis we have to install, or fix, or remap, or service a customers computer because they didn’t install the asio drivers right, or because they dont know how to configure stuff or anything of the sort.
I can honestly say i’ve only had to provide service to one mac in my time here and that was only because i volunteered because i wanted to play with a kontrol s4 (back when they first came out)
I have never had a pc crash on me wen playing. I have had a mac crash on me, traktor error but still the same

The hardware may be cheap but remember they build the is around the hardware so that is why. Also why Linux is so stable when you compile it based soley on the system that it will run on. Windows 7 is fairly rock solid it is a pig but if you spec your system right it’s good.
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1742938&CatId=4936. That’s the 14inch asus laptop I recently purchased put in a solid state and it is a beast. Again I do not use if for anything besides traktor and adobe don’t even browse the web on it or have iTunes on it. iTunes is a resource hog btw.
Also I stick with asus brand laptops as they are usually very reliable. I’ve had a few and abused the crap out of them

I’d hardly call it industry standard.
I’d have to disagree here to. To the best of my knowledge, the hardware is basically the same as a PC except it’s in a case with a nicer display and shiny logo.
Macbook or Macbook pro?
Its all about the specs and not the name (pro or not) when you compare things. You need to do a side by side comparison showing specs, price and warranty’s.
( I know this because I sell them. I am not trying to Thread jack you but I felt since I sell these my knowledge would be helpful. )
Asking if a pro is better than a Macbook is to vague and cant be answered because the answer can go either way depending on the specs/price ratio.
As for the OP, I’d say your knowledge level of PCs combined with how deep your pockets run will tell you what you need to do. In my observations and experience, almost all PC’s will require a little tweaking (sometimes a lot of tweaking), but in the end, Traktor WILL run smoothly on it. Now if you have the budget, and don’t mind paying for it, I’ve found Mac to be more of a plug and play experience. Not just for me, but for just about everyone I’ve talked to.
In the end, ask yourself what is more important to you… Do you want to spend half the money of an Apple product and get the same (or slightly better) specs if you have just a little computer savviness and don’t mind doing a little bit of prep work on your machine? Do you want to spend double the money on the luxury of plug and play?
I’ve tried to keep out personal OPINION and just keep it to fact and experience. Hope that helps, mang.
