I know quite a few famous DJ’s/producers personally, but they are famous in SA, not really Internationally. They are pretty much booked up all year round in SA, something I hope will be the same for me on day…
A couple. Most aren’t very close friends, though. A couple rappers who may or may not ever make it big but have put out a track or two, one vocalist who’s a promoter now, and a couple DJs who’ve been on tour. And a friend from DJF got ASOT’d at some point. I’m not sure what happened to him.
I really should start cultivating some of those.
In funnier news, I’m 3 jumps away from Kanye West by 2 completely different paths (his stylist went to HS with a friend of mine and my hetero life partner has gone drinking with his european tour manager) and at one point facebook suggested that I might know Richard West (Mr.C), whom I’ve met but who probably doesn’t remember me…but we have at least 2 mutual friends. Oh, and a Fraternity Brother’s step sister used to date Sasha. Real funny stories from that one.
Not edm, but my dad is pretty close with Billy Gibbons and Steve Miller, I’ve met both and I imagine they couldn’t pick me out of a lineup if all their residuals were at stake, through my dad I met Steve Stevens (Billy Idol’s guitarist post Gen X) at my father’s house and I was at a guitar center in dallas a few years ago and lo and behold Steve Stevens comes up to me and chats me up…pretty cool cat, and one fantastic guitarist to boot
I live down the street from J. Geils, from the J. Geils Band. And when Ben Affleck’s grandfather passed away a few years ago, my wife’s grandmother was friends with him, and now has his cat.
Not really EDM related at all, but still interesting.
I’ve chilled and talked to a few different artists at shows, but wouldn’t consider anyone I know to have hit big. I have a few friends really working their asses off about it though (mostly acoustic/band stuff), but that’s about it.
I don’t know anyone that I would say is “famous”, but I come from the same small town as the members of Altern-8 and Bizarre Inc. (if you’re old enough to remember their tunes!) so I know those guys, although not that well and only through local DJing work. The guy behind this tune was in the same year as me at school, so I used to know him quite well although I haven’t seen him in years: -
Not music related, but the most famous person to attend my school when I was there was Jonathan Ive, the lead designer of the iMac, iPod, iPhone etc. who was a couple of years above me.
I know Morten Breum out of Copenhagen…probably the #1 DJ in Denmark. He recently moved to LA to hit the American scene.
He has some great tunes and he brings it hard every time I’ve seen spin live. I highly recommend checking him out. He just released a bootleg of Levels… slammin!
Not famous but very upcoming. A friend of mine is signed to Pacha Recordings and does gigs for Pacha all over Europe, and the Middle East. He did a remix of Dim Chris - Hype, and did a remix of LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem wich got airtime on one of UKs biggest radio stations. His name is Josef Bamba

also check out Lucas Rego 17 yr old DJ from miami, for being a young DJ he is getting places fast, already playing festivals ( obviously not on the mainstage).
