Does size really matter, how big is your library?

my 2tb wd mybook is almost full from 20 years of djing.

I have about 1800, which I consider alot, cause you can’t really remember every twist and turn of every song can you? (maybe the cheeba is affecting my memory)

Anyways, I regularly ‘retire’ songs I don’t think I will be playing for a while. I like to keep my library lean and mean.

Girls dont like it when you do this

hahaha, awesome

big library > big feet

I think organisation is key. in saying that I am not at all, just loose so many songs into my iTunes.

its more about how much variety does ur library have imo

Maybe if you are wedding dj lol.

For myself, I have only about 150 songs that are actually playable (edited/beatgridded/cued/keyed/etc.), I don’t consider my full library to be my DJ library (which would be maybe 14 gigs or so?).

Then again I just started DJing about 6 months ago so, it’s kind of expected to have a small library.

i think you meant “Maybe if you are an interesting dj.”

unless you want to be the hundred millionth carbon copy jock who plays one genre and only one genre. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

More like maybe if u wanna be approachable for all genres of music. I dj everything from hip hop to house to international to indian and the reason why i can is cuz i have a huge library and am able to accommodate all these gigs.

more versatility = more gigs = more popularity = mo0re $.

check out some of the mixes i have done:

Just realized I’ve got 350 nu-disco tracks. Enough to mix for over 36 hours straight. Lovely.

real talk

im at the 2200 mark

i know soneone with 17 terrabytes (yes, TERRAbytes) of mainly 320’s over the past 10 years

^ g.o.d.d.a.m.n!

I have a little more than 4000 (on the basis of constantly sorting out old ones and adding new ones, in total it would be a bit more but no use keeping stuff I wouldn’t play anymore) covering the genres that I spin - ambient, big beat, breaks, classic electro, techno, progressive/psy, dubstep and drum’n bass - plus a couple of tools (acapellas, scratch records).

17?!?!?!???
holy mother of !!!

then again, way back when, 1gig was alot…

I guess it depends on your niche. Like someone said above if you are going for a more versatile aspect then yeah, the more you have the better to accommodate the people you are playing too. Especially if you are into it to make some cash.

If you are into just a handful of genre’s and just want to cater to that crowd then its not as necessary to have a huge collection.

Regardless I think quality over quantity. From a fan perspective I would rather hear less of higher quality songs, then a lot of mediocre music.

i know right?

he has external hard drives all over the place
