driving sound

driving sound

hi guys, been working on songs in ableton but cant seem to figure out how to make the song with a drive that make you want to dance. Sound like i have a lot of sounds just put together. Is in the the flow and constantly changing params for different sounds?

In my opinion, comes down to groove/swing, bassline and arrangement.

would it make sense, in the arrangement, to have certains channels constantly changing some parameters through automation to keep the sound evolving throughout the song? also i ve been trying to find stuff on arrangement, but so far not many good tutorials/articles.

It can work sometimes, a good example is faxing berlin by deadmau5, Im sure the main lead slowly changes all the way through it.

There’s no right or wrong answer, but as long as it sounds good and makes sense then yeah, have at it. As for the arrangement, kind of hard to teach I’d say, something you really have to learn and feel. That just comes from listening and DJing a lot and going out to clubs and seeing what works and what doesn’t.

I think in Deadmau5 songs, a lot has to do with filtering…

He filters in and out throughout the whole song, it really gives the feeling that its changing all the time.
