Hello Hello
Gotta start with I love this place and you guys. I love how the environment is more about helping rather then a arrogant Everyone knows more then everyone else vibe with other Forums
That being said bare with me lol…I’m looking at the Numark Mixdeck Express (I don’t need that iPod Dock). And I was talking with my friends about working with Drops during a Set (I have an Arsenal of Great ones) and my one friend suggested getting a 3rd CDJ and have the drops loaded on that one.
Is that a good route to go? or is there a kind of “Instant Replay” feature or setup?
Generally, they are large gatherings of people who come together to listen to music, socialize, and have fun. These “NYC parties” are also generally held in NYC.
Speaking from experience of playing some of NYC’s bigger parties/afterparties/clubs, and being part of a crew that threw some of New Yorks biggest raves, I can tell you that the people DO like a little bit added to a set. The worlds biggest DJ’s are in the city 7 days a week. While going overboard is never good, NYC party goers do look for more out of a DJ than just to “play good tracks”.
I would answer your question but I don’t really understand it…I get the drops part which sound more like one shots. But are you running traktor or the mixtrack with an ipod?
You can load up a one shot to any deck in traktor or even off your ipod I imagine. Just you couldn’t use it while transitioning between songs if you only had 2 decks off the ipod.
Anyways, if your using traktor just put it in the third or fourth deck and mouse click if you don’t feel like setting up a mapping. Once again, I just think everyone is confused.
If you’re looking to add something like this, it’s the perfect example of using a sampler. Be it in software or otherwise.
Using a 3rd deck would be good for this as well, but it’s one of the stronger points of software use in my opinion. All of the big name software’s have a sampler built in, so it’s something you could take advantage of and prep ahead of time.
I don’t know if you’ll have a point spinning at a party when you’ll realistically have 3 physical CDJ’s to mess about on. (Usually it’s 2 CDJ’s and 2 TT’s around here). And so that’s where incorporating a controller and software comes into play, IMO.
But I see what you mean by adding a bit more flavor. A lot of people like doing this on the fly, and others will do custom edits of tracks to have it taken care of ahead of time. (There’s a whole other thread on custom edits around somewhere).
I say go for it and just do your thing. “Mucking it up” is something to be worried about, but customizing sound is something that gives you personal character behind the decks.
