electro: wow...

electro: wow…

so… I’m mostly a trance/deep house kind of guy, and I’ve been spinning that for around a year now. However, I’ve been hearing a lot of guys throwing down absolutely massive electro tracks (no not that bs electro that would be tiesto’s new album), something akin to B33son’s bali comp video.

My question is this: how do I get into this genre, as a dj, and an educated listener? I’d love to be able to build sets around this… but I dont know where to begin.

Help? Please? All I’ve got is a couple disco villains remixes, along with a some scattered tracks.

check out gottadancedirty.com

Hype Machine is your friend. Imo, about 90% of the music on there is usually electro.

Just browse through the different songs until you start to find some blogs you consistently like music from (gottadancedirty ^^^ is one of my favorites) and then click the heart and follow it. Once you get a nice amount of blogs favorited you can just go to the “watchlist songs” most of the time and you’ll find loads of good music.

Just a suggestion. That’s primarily how I find new music.

Yeah I mean, that’s how I keep up with trance and prog, but like you said, I already have my blog list well compiled… and damn, its going to take a little effort to do the same for a new genre.

check out longwalkshortdock from vancouver

there was a blog mentioned here a little while ago, feature electro artists based out of canada… cant remember the name.

http://lightsover.blogspot.com/

yep that was it, thanks a lot! but still, keep em coming!

i would like to know that blog. umm felix cartal

http://www.myspace.com/felixcartal

Yeah, kpb, I listened to a couple felix cartal songs when I first found the blog mentioned above, I really enjoyed it.

Like others have said, hypem is your friend for finding new music. Gottadancedirty, noiseporn, and discodemons are some of my favorite blogs.

Beatport is also great. You can follow certain producers and labels there pretty easily. Some of my favorite labels are Dubsided, Cheap Thrills (Jack Beats is on this label)…Dim Mak hosts MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots and is owned by Steve Aoki, not my absolute favorite label but they have some big names.

Also, just gonna throw out Wolfgang Gartner as an amazing producer. He’s fantastic.

And make sure you check out John Roman and Pance Party.

I would recommend hopping on the blog train at first, but I would then start to see what LABELS interest you, not blogs so much.

Try: Cheap Thrills, Turbo, Ed Banger, Dubsided, Last Gang, Dim Mak, Boys Noize Records, Coco Machete…

Yeah, I know what you mean, but blogs can be just as reliable as labels sometimes for categorization. A blogger has a specific set of tastes, similar to those of a label owner, and he only publishes songs that he likes. Therefore, by taking from several different blogs (as long as they dont overlap much), you can get a nice eclectic collection.

Still, I definitely plan on looking into labels.

herve ftw

and trevor loveys

I’ve been listening to a little herve, but his remix of I’m Not Alone kind of destroyed part of my soul… haven’t been able to go back since.

didn’t think it was that bad, but couldn’t bring myself to buy it. tbh i don’t have as much herve stuff as i’d like, but i know there is a danger i’d get stuck playing lots of just that.

this got me excited the other day.
