Opening match was shitty (as was to be expected). Not sure what to expect from the next game, in the end group A is probably the weakest group of them all.
i wouldn’t want to be in B or D…groups of death…
Nice offensive play by the Russians. Can’t really comment on their defence yet, the Czechs were just too bad.

Im missing all of this. Just moved to Aus and all the games start at midnight or 2.45am!! so I’m left with reading match reports on the BBC Sport website!!

Yeah, well, the match report probably makes it sound more interesting than it was. Germany - Portugal was a good match though. Lucky victory for Germany (which is a pity, have never been a supporter of the national team scum), Portugal stronger than I expected - maybe they’ll finally play properly at a tournament again, the last few were quite disappointing considering their potential.
Looking forward to The Netherlands - Germany next wednesday. That is going to be an epic game.
Just watched the highlights from yesterday. Enjoyed the Italy v Spain game. Spain looked impressive as always and Italy as resilient as ever. 2 definite contenders (if we didn’t already think so).
Ireland just showed us why they haven’t reached the finals of a major tournament for some years. Although they had a couple of tough decisions against them. Croatia’s 2nd goal looked offside and i thought Ireland should have been awarded a penalty.
Sadly I’m going to miss the England v France game tonight - i just pray England can finally show some of what we are capable of - but I’m filled with quiet pessimism if I’m honest!!
The goal would have been offside if a Croatian had played that pass, but it came from an Irishman. Absolutely agree about the penalty, though.
Ah they didn’t show that on the highlights. Ill let them have that then!!

Indeed! I shall be leaving for home shortly, will park myself on the sofa, beer in hand and everything crossed England might actually turn up to a tournament. I think the expectations are so low this time (partly due to the Jubilee and Olympics happening this Summer), that making the 1/4’s can be deemed success!!! secretly hopes England play a blinder
