File naming batch on OSX

File naming batch on OSX

Hi,

Does anybody knows any software like MP3Tag for free on OSX ?
I found some but they are not as easy to work with as MP3tag does…

Even if you know a non free but efficent software, be my guest and fell free to talk about it.
Cheers

read this thread ?

Yep… my problem is : on mac, there is less choice and they aren’t free… then I found interesting to know how the other people here proceed.

There is a free program called iTag, its pretty good and it free, it helps you rename you mp3 file name, like so… track number - artist - track name.mp3 or artist - track.mp3. it reads the id3 tags. I use iTunes to setup my tags. I did run into a small problem with reading tag v2.4 so you might have to change them to v2.3 and it works like a charm.

I use this, probably the same as iTag but it’s a script that Itunes uses so no .app installed, It writes the ID3 tag “artist - track” or whatever you specify to the file name.

you can also edit the script so you don’t get the popup every time

Thanx guys,

I’m going to test it this evening

I-tunes will do it for you, depending on what you’re wanting.
Open i-tunes and then highlight the tracks you want in the batch
Then choose get info from the file drop down or cmd+I
It will ask if you want to edit multiple files, click ok.
Voila you can edit most tags from there, not all admitedly though.

Yes… I don’t know yet all itune functions (I only started to use it when I get my mac last month) but I did exactly what you said and it works!
Thank you

Glad it worked
Ifyou need help mac related feel free to drop me a line

I’ve used iTag to rename all my mp3’s but it’s no longer working as its not compatible with lion. Anyone know of any similar programs for Mac OSX 10.7.1?

I don´t know about ITag but i can say i used about 5 different Mp3 Tagging software and the best by far is Trainspotter - http://www.tspotter.net/

It´s free and it basically finds the release of your mp3 on Discogs and Beatport and gives you the options (cause the same mp3 is very often released in compilations and re-editions etc…). You tick the one it corresponds to and voilá… It not only tags all the fields of the mp3 correctly as it adds the artwork.

Totally recommend it to all digital DJ´s.

Just another quick vote for this script. I’ve used this for years, & it’s part of my workflow with any new muisc I add to my DJing collection on my lappy.

thanks thisisian and Darkatek!

Will check out both tonight.

Duuuuude! That’s just what I’ve been looking for!! That guy has a lot of great iTunes scripts on his page. Already put this one to use and I’ll say I like the simple quick nature of it!

I forgot to mention another 2 little apps i found really usefull and are also free and work with Itunes probably in same way as the one laurens mentioned.

Tune Instructor Download Tune-Instructor for Mac | MacUpdate which has a really easy and user friendly interface

Clochette http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31754/clochette

But i think to organize and rename files on ITunes Tune Instructor rocks and i only rarely use Clochette.

I guess it´s a matter of preference of interface that will decide what you´ll use.
Now i only use Trainspotter to properly Tag all my mp3´s, and Tune Instructor to rename the original files according to the name on ITunes after tagging them properly.

Give them a go and see what works best for you
