File permissions trouble Mac (10.6.8) please help

So I have this SD card to transport files (e.g. movie night at a friend 's place) and just like so many of you I was living life on the edge and never safely removed my hardware.

Until today I had no issues. But today after pulling out my SD card I can’t write new files or delete files. I can still open and view files tho.

What happend was by cutting power to the card the permissions altered. I need to set them back to the default.

I tried disk utilities (found a support page on the apple site) but it wouldn’t allow me to reset them because I can’t write new files on the SD card.

Apple then said if that doesn’t work then you need to use terminal but basicly they say “If you don’t know the language of computers, don’t fuck around with it”

Me being desperate, I fucked around with it, carefully tho, no issues so far. But I just couldn’t solve the problem. I tried like 10 commands.

What do I do ? If no one here knows then I’ll call apple or something. But as everyone knows, calling tech support is not a fun way to spend your weekend.

Thanks in advance.

download linux E.G linux mint burn to disk and run the cd  once the OS starts you can copy over the files, format the card and put them back on  permission problems solved

i always have linux running on a flash drive for general use… very usefull tool

Will disk utility not allow you to format the card ?

has happened a few times with Flash drives, sometimes took a computer reboot with the drive inserted before it would allow me to unlock the flash drive and format it for some weird reason

it will… but it likes to fail alot with sd cards it thinks my 8gig usb is 5kb in size…

linux is open source so they never lock your cards or files unless you ask them to

You can also format in a camera if you have one which accepts SD… that should do the trick.

No disk utility allows me to check the status of the drive, but performing actions with it requires permission.

And I rebooted twice, it doesn’t solve the problem.

Seems like a lot of work, but I want to give it a shot. I hope I can try it tomorrow, I have motherfucking busy weekend.

I would just use Disk Utility to reformat the card.

Will I lose all my data if I do so ?

Just tried logging in with the root user to see if I can override the permission settings.

Turns out I can’t.

And is there a way I can solve this without reformatting ? I’d like to keep the data intact.
