UPS just delivered my 13" MBP. Now my question for the Mac usess is how do I transfer Traktor Pro and my music files from my PC laptop?
why did u get a mac if u are used to pc?
I’m sorry to say but its pretty much an old wives tale these days that you NEED a mac to do DJing…over priced undergeared laptop if u ask me.
and to get at ur question at hand…i dont know if it is possible to transfer ur Traktor files from PC to Mac…
It is very possible with an external drive formatted to FAT32. If you have an external hit me up and I will walk you through it. It did not seem like he was asking for opinions, just how to transfer files.
I could have purchased another PC, but then I would spend an hour optimizing it for audio work and then the next few weeks chasing conflicts.
Anyway, I’m not trying to start a Mac vs PC debate.
Actually I have several external HDs, I’ll drop you a PM tomorrow, I’m off to work in a few. Thanks.
install traktor on the mac? the mac installer should be on the install disc and use external harddrive to copy music across.
Don’t you just have to put your .tsi and .nml files in the right places?
There are tons of articles out there on how to do this.
Not to be a dick, but just Google it. I just recently had to do this, although I went from Mac to Mac. I only transferred my iTunes because I wanted to start from scratch with Traktor. I’m not sure how move Traktor, or if its even possible, to do that. The key is having the original iTunes library files in the same location on the new computer.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, I’m on my work computer and do not have access to my bookmarks.
Cool your jets PC boi.
FAT32 Drive, export your settings from Traktor on the PC, make sure you get NI to deactivate the PC license. Copying your library is a bit more involved if you want to keep your beat grids and cue points, there should be a guide on how to do it though…
i had to do the same thing the other month but wanted to start from scratch mostly anyway. i just downloaded the traktor pro demo for mac and unlocked it in the service center. mp3’s etc i copied across using a fat32 external drive - but now use “scp” to copy most files to/from the mac (u just need to enable the sshd server on the mac). pretty sure u only need the files that mostapha mentioned - may have to relocate them when traktor checks the collection? i did a similar thing when migrating my itunes collection and just did a search+replace in the xml file from the old to new locations.
You don’t need a Fat32 formatted drive to just read the files from the old hard drive - only to write.
And easy method to start copying stuff
Transfer from PC to Mac with Migration Assistant - Apple Support << start here make life easier.
Just an Export of the iTunes XML from the windows machine and import into the new mac worked for me. Just drag and drop the old entire music folder from the windows machine into iTunes window on the mac before importing the playlists.
pretty sure the migration assistant will take care of that side of things for you though
actually i was being stupid… i didn’t use a fat32 anyway, i only have ntfs formatted drives ![]()
first thing i did was get that to work - installed “FUSE for OS X” and NTFS support for it so i could read and write to ntfs drives
on my old machine i didn’t have itunes set to copy files into it’s own library - i think it’s easier to migrate if you do let it copy them? all the tutorials i saw anyway were for how to do it when itunes was managing the collection for you which i am doing now (tho didn’t mean to - forgot to uncheck the option
)
so i just copied the folder i drop my new purchases into - mangled the xml to point to that dir - and it all worked first time…
Migration assistant would take care of it anyhows.
ah… didn’t know about that… ![]()
Thanks for the suggestion guys.
I’m sorry to say your an idiot.
I was like you once; all pro-PC and jealous of the Mac fanboys…but now I’ve waxed a small fortune on a laptop that I can assure makes yours look like something I used to put tape cassettes into and load up Dizzy The Egg on Treasure Island I can see how crazy you sound and how right the person who bought his new 13" badboy is.
In future think before your mind tells your fingers to start bashing out words - Macbooks are the industry standard of digital DJing for a reason.
Okay put the full specs of ur MBP and lets compare…
Mine:
17" full 1080P screen(doesnt really matter) and weight isnt an issue nor space with my Laptop stand.
Core i7 2630QM Processor 2.6ghz with 6mb Cache
12 Gigs of 1333mhz Ram
Dual HDD with 160ssd and 750 7200rpm HD
3 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0
GTX 560M (not really applicable but hey its a benefit)
I can do all my Graphic Design, Working with Ableton (with almost NO latency) Traktor, and even Setup my projector to do visuals (not VDJing) while i am playing for small events and house parties.
And im pretty sure that this cost probably around the same as a 15" macbookpro if not less.
Disregard my sig…that was my original Laptop before i bought this beast
pc vs mac
I would pay $1500 for OS X itself over Win 7.
7" full 1080P screen(doesnt really matter) and weight isnt an issue nor space with my Laptop stand.
17" is bulky and a bastard to carry, i like my 13.meh my flightcase is heavy as fuck already and i keep it in there
Core i7 2630QM Processor 2.6ghz with 6mb Cache
no comment, its a processor - …no comment its just a processor? uhhhhh im not even gonna touch this one
12 Gigs of 1333mhz Ram
you talk about your ableton benchpressing abilities, however live only uses 3.2GB of RAM MAX (true but if you want to use anything else with it, the bridge or re-routing through to traktor you may have issues, so 4gb is sufficient
Dual HDD with 160ssd and 750 7200rpm HD
not hard to install on a mac This will cost additional money on top of the over inflated price u already paid
3 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0
we have firewire. thats great, firewire is used about as much as usb 3.0 and since usb 3.0 is newer tech it will be utilzed a lot more and is faster than firewire
