Finaly ordered my Macbook Pro! A few questions and comments though.

  1. How do I transfer the cue points and stuff from PC to Mac? I read how to do it for Mac-to-Mac, but I do not know if it is the same for PC-to-Mac. Or is it all written ont he ID3 tags of the tracks?

  2. Any tips you all can give me on how I should set it up so it will last me forever and ever and ever and ever? I am going to be running bootcamp for windows, firefox with noscript and adblock, traktor and ,eventually, ableton, and will be taking physical care of it like it is my baby.

  3. I am SO fucking happy to finally upgrade from my fossil of a Lenovo (darn thing blue screened during a great set yesterday, thankfully it was in my room:smiley: ).

THANKS!

Gianmarco

It’s in the ID3 tags (I think, I’m not completely sure but I would guess so).

All of those applications are available for Mac OS as well so why would you use Bootcamp?

  1. depends on the software you are using. In Traktor, for example, it is stored in the ID3 tags of mp3s or in the collection file for all file types

  2. Wouldn’t bother running bootcamp then windows then Traktor, you’d be better off buying a PC

some school stuff only works on windows

and starcraft 2:sunglasses:

oh dont forget to get some type of case of you mac…if you have a unibody they scratch easily.

Also available on Mac.

o i know, but it runs loads better on windows, ill have bootcamp anyways just in case any future classes in the remaining 3 years in college ill be in rewuires windows

any 3rd party manufacturers ud recommend? also any coolling pads ud recommend?

thanks!

the speck & mcovers are pretty good.

sweet ill look into those. Anyone got any recommendations on cooling mats or anything to keep it running nice and cool?

Bollocks to Bootcamp and Win on Mac…

No need.

Lethal Pizzle is right about cues etc.

Well I would be running traktor (and eventually ableton) on mac osx.

the only time I will ever use the windows partition is for starcraft and for school related stuff if software homework we need to use only works on windows (like that damn computer applications class last year). but aside from that i wont be using boot camp at all.

perfect so I wll just trasnfer all my tracks to my mac and it should be well. thanks!

2 small programs you should forsure get are “SMC fan control” and “caffine”

both are free (google them for the download info)

SMC fan control lets you set the cooling fan speed manually, which helps a lot because apple sets them super low so macbooks run really hot and can get fried

and caffine runs in the background and will keep your laptop from going into screen saver or sleep mode during sets

I was told NOT to adjust the fan speeds in any way by some IT ppl i know because it can mess it up in other ways. Ill look into “caffin” though

ok so i looked into the spek and mcovers

spek seems a bit on the pricy area but looks like i would get what i pay for

but mcovers is cheaper and comes with a free keyboard cover

anyone got any experience with either? is the keyboard cover easy on the fingers when used?

also anyone know any good cooling mats or anything of the like?

thanks again!

Gianmarco

Google Chrome
Quicksilver
Transmission (or uTorrent)
Flip4Mac
MacFUSE
AppZapper
VLC
MacJanitor
UnRarX
and you’ll probably like SoundFlower

just to name a few

and I always like incase for cases.

uh, holy crap to appzapper.

coming from windows to mac, i was pulling my hair out at how simplified uninstalls were. it was making me lose my mind thinking i was doing something wrong.

many thanks.

Haha yeah. I’ve had my MBP for 2 years and still feel like I’m missing something when I go to uninstall. But that’s all there really is. AppZapper finds all the files associated with that app that may be hidden around your computer and deletes them. Simple as that.

also Disk Inventory X for seeing what is taking up the most room on your HD

+1. I have that as well but that’s more of an inventory/maintenance tool, and if you have a large hd there’s no real need to worry about it.

WHAT Screw bootcamp… lol i have a macbook pro 13" and i run SC2 on it perfectly fine never have issues its a custom map where someone decided it would be cool to have 500,000 guys on screen at one time… lol otherwise normal games it works a charm  and Traktor runs perfectly on a mac so no need to run that on bootcamp :stuck_out_tongue:
