Had my first gig (joint 18th party) last night Did it for free, however a few expenses were involved which have been covered. Hired out speakers and a laser, had so much fun!!! Was expecting to be nervous as.. Was not at allllâŚ
Only got my vci on April 6th, so the night wasnât without some stuff ups but everyone was drunk so didnt care haha
Now understand the ârequestsâ deal hahaha, i played the songs if i had them, if not pretty much said âna sorry dude, dont have it..â
15 seperate noise complaints to the police⌠Thatâs a party
I play the housy mainstream top 40 type of music, with the odd actual house song (ie not top 40).. Itâs the music i most enjoy, and works out well because itâs probably the most popular =]
yeh mate, house was definately a terrible set up for any sort of d-floor haha, so just made do with what i could..
Also, because the place i hired the speakers / laser from gave me xlr to rca cables instead of xlr to jack (for audio 2 dj, i told them that is what i was using but had never connected to proper speakers before so didnt know what i did / didnât need) i had to go up to the local guitar shop and fork out 50 bucks worth of cables, as it was a 50 min drive to the hire shop.
Told them about it today, next hire = free!
I bought a jack to female xlr cable, a converter to turn that female xlr to a male xlr (connects the A2DJ to one speaker) then i bought a female to male xlr cable to connect that speaker directly to the other..
From the photo your table looks kind of low. It will kill your trapezius muscles after a couple hours. Next time (if possible) bring that up to about your belly button or higher. Glad you had a great night. Now that your friends see how a live DJ and a decent sound system can lift a party, get them to fork up some dough next time. $10 from 30 people helps a lot. Cheers.
Yeh dude, table was soo low⌠Was the only thing I could use but, I rocked up on the night expecting an awesome size table, yet that was all she had⌠Have to make do with situation at hand I spose. Definately a lesson learnt for next time though
Im actually working on a couple sets right now to give to a GM of a new posh place a couple cities away from me. If I get picked (which is a looooooooong shot) it will be my 1st gig.
My buddyâs childhood friend just became the new Mgr and is asking for couple mixes to decide on a resident DJ. Considering I only play EDM and have no experience to be picked up for a âultra sophisticatedâ venue⌠Im not hoping for much butâŚI have to try and will definitely do it for free if picked up.
Like I said in this thread working for free is like saying my work isnât worth any money. And as others have said it just makes it harder for the DJâs who are worth it to get paid.
Think of it this way⌠there are some shit djs out there making loads more money than talented but unknown djs. So donât do it for free, even if youâre just starting out/donât think you have skils/just want the gig, because chances are thereâs a dj worse than you out there getting payed.
