FL Studio 10.5 “Performance Mode” (beta) - Any Thoughts?
Just curious to see what people are thinking about with this.. Ableton Killer? Flop? Somewhere in between?
I did a quick search for “performance mode” on here and didn’t see anything. I’m using Trakor for live stuff, and FL for production, so it would be nice to have a seamless 2 in 1 like Abelton.
It looks really interesting but I highly doubt this is going to affect ableton that much. It’s all personal preference I’ve used fl studio and really didn’t like the feel so instead I use ableton.
@Crowd3ontrol. I hear ya. I’m the same way but in reverse. Ableton is a rad program, but the feel just doesn’t fit for me. The “Ableton killer” part was more of a joke. I think there is plenty of room for both.
@Childrenatplay. I’ve played with it a tiny bit in beta, and from what I can tell, someone who’s into this stuff in general should get it fairly quickly. For a true “noob” to midi controlling, it might have a noticeable learning curve to it, but not any more than Ableton would.
That’s kind of what I was thinking. I’m just hoping that the guts of it are on par or better than Abelton, so then it really is just a matter of personal preference. Right now it seems Abelton is the only real game in town for that type of djing from what I’ve seen, so it would be nice to have some options.
i think that looks pretty cool - a non starter for me being windows only tho. looks like it may well do enough of what someone needs for clip launching, just probably without a lot of the flexability of ableton live?
must be the in thing atm then - adding clip launching functionality to software apps
You can use bootcamp, or I think it also works if you have windows for Mac. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next full version of FL is fully compatible with mac. I’m sure FL knows it will be a major factor if they are trying to legitimately go for some of Ableton’s market share.
As far as the flexibility gos, it’s pretty diverse as a DAW. It’s one of the things I like about it. There’s a half a dozen ways to do anything depending on how you go about your flow. I guess well see shortly once the real version is out. FL also has free updates for life, which is nice. So once it does come out, it wont cost me a dime to see.
