Forcing S4 to do a “MIDI Send-State”? (i.e. sync Traktor w/ S4 knob positions)

Hello all,

I’ve been spending a lot more time ‘spinning records’ (yep, I still call it that) since I picked up an S4, and I’ve almost finished my ground-up MIDI mapping. One of the problems that just irks me is that every time I boot up Traktor, the states of the controls on my S4 don’t match the one’s on-screen until I move them for the first time. I’ve trained myself to go through a (painstaking) process of systematically moving each of my controls to prevent Traktor from thinking a volume slider is UP when the S4’s slider is actually down.

I know a lot of MIDI devices have the ability to do a ‘send-state’ - sending the CC/note/etc for each of the controls at its current physical position. Anyone know if the S4 has this feature hidden away somewhere? Maybe this is a standard MIDI command I’m unaware of? (I haven’t dealt with the SYSEX side of MIDI at all, so forgive me if I missed the obvious)

Well if you weren’t turning knobs while the unit was off you wouldn’t have this problem. Try checking soft-takeover command and see if that helps your problems. Basically it makes it so your amount won’t jump to knob position until knob as met current amount.

He’s not. He was leaving the knobs where they were and quitting Traktor.

Have the same problem with my DX mapping.

There’s gotta be a way, short of manually moving every control, to execute a ‘send state’ command on my S4! I mean, any piece of quality performance gear has this feature, right?! (voice of desperation)

PS: norequest: It’s a given that knobs and sliders may move in transit, or may just be inadvertently moved by someone before Traktor has been booted. Also, soft-takeover will actually make the problem WORSE, forcing me to move the slider TO/THROUGH the position last-registered by Traktor before I can move it to the position I WANT it to be in.
