We need to make the signup question easier to follow on the forums
Currently the question is “What is the word tac spelled backwards” - the answer being cat
Some user, particularly though users who’s English is not their first language have difficulty answering this question.
So basically i am starting this thread to see that if we as a community can come up with a question that everyone agrees is easy to answer and yet keeps the bots out.
The answer should be very easy for a human to answer but difficult for a bot to answer - bots have no problem doing maths related questions (1+1=?) so they cannot be used.
Kudos to anyone who can come up with something super simple that we can all agree upon
Are you able to automate picture generation and scramble it in the same fashion as CAPTCHA?
You could use the pic to generate two numbers and still use arithmetic.
Or you could ask “What is your username spelt backwards?”. I don’t know the peculiarities of spam bots, or their current level of sophistication, but I’m not sure they can quite anser logic like that.
We tried captcha for a while there and it worked horribly - our experience has been that a simple user question is the most effective method of keeping spam off the forums. Its just that the question has to be written in such a way that its super simple for everyone even with a super low level of english can answer yet still cannot be answered by bots.
I would not be surprised if bots can pick up on that one, its very fairly frequently used and i personally think it would be really really easy to code something that would answer that question.
LOLz, would be fun if bots would be able to pickup an ‘O RLY?’ or a ‘YA RLY!’ answer for that one.
LOLz, that’s more of a retorical question. I for sure would answer that one with ‘dancer’.
Well, if it the questions and answers are put on a public part of the board, I don’t think it you’d need to bother with trying to come up with questions, if you’d ask me.
Well, I mean, you know a guy is for real if he’s willing to call someone in Australia or New Zealand or Papua New Guinea or wherever the hell it is Bento lives just to get on a forum.
And could you imagine the conversation when they call speaking, or yelling, in some weird dialect of Chinese cause that province just got access to the glorious interwebs.

We might as well keep it DJ related, cause that’s something that everyone here can understand. We might want to keep it modern
Show a picture of a compact disc “What is this?” and the answer could be CD, compact disc, shiny piece of silver, etc. etc. etc.
Leave your sentence up there, then link to babelfish so that someone can translate it.
I’m sure you know better than the rest of us Bento, but I just find it hard to believe someone would come to read/post/register on an English forum and not know how to translate something.
