Apologies if this has been covered before but I couldn’t find any previous threads on the subject so…
Best sources for free music? And I mean music that the artist is giving free downloads. Is there an easier way than trawling through Soundcloud and the like, something that collates the give-aways? I’m in search of a time saving method..
Like karlos said, digging is half the fun! also, you might wanna add creative commons to your searches, a lot of the artists that give their music away will distribute this way
Heres a good tip: Search on youtube “Insert genre name here” Promotion.
Then search, click filter up at the top and select channels, Usually there’s shit tons of free downloads and most of it is good stuff.
(Make sure it is relatively unknown, you won’t be getting any free downloads from UKF for example)
Find an artist on the channel that you like, check there soundcloud if they got any free downloads that are fit, grab em’. Then move on to the people he is following or his followers.
This also gives you your own sound, so you’re not playing the same junk everyone else plays.
That’s precisely it. Spending hours flicking through web pages just isn’t the same.
Thanks for all the constructive advice. I agree about virtual crate digging but at the same time, if I can listen to 100 tracks by using a resource that collates stuff or a system that works, my time is better spent than someone else listening to half of that number or less and the rest of the time clicking through, waiting for things to buffer etc…
I still don’t understand why people bother putting snide remarks to questions like this, thanks again for the pointers.
Buffering times is what bugs me. I dunno about you but i live in the French countryside. Download speed is maximum 128kb per second. So if i wanna download a 40mb album it takes round 10 mins
I’m partial to Jamendo.com myself. Lots of stuff to look through that is just so-so, but it’s all free and there’s some real gems in there, particularly if you like different genres.
