Future of Hardware

Future of Hardware

I hope that soon big or small companies offer “bespoke” products… the possibilities for us to personalize a product according to our needs should be an option next to the alternative diy… If i can customize my sneakers with Nike ID why not my controllers

well several manufacturers have started to provide very stripped down controllers like korg and now akai. also if you look at the dascratch + mixer, I can see things being quite modular already. the limiting factor seems to be having enough low latency USB ports. i havent checked but hopefully USB3 will improve things here and provide for lower latency when going through hubs. the other alternative would be proprietary interconnects.

another route that the iphone is popularizing is wireless connections, which obviously also bring their fair share of latency, probably more so than you would even get with a usb hub. but things will also improve on that end.

so suddenly you can put together your controller set up from an array of dedicated controllers. of course the firmware of these devices needs to be smart enough to make it easy to switch channels or even midi notes. or better yet move on to OSC ..

there are members of the DJTT fam who are willing to make you a bespoke controller. go search the threads

The problem right now is finding a way to build solid hardware which is mechanically reliable - without costing the earth.

Stanton are heading in the right direction with their sc system, for now I think this is about as customizable as controllers will get.

But give me a few years and a decent budget and Ill have your backs

The midifighter! =)

to be honest, something like the midifighter - with a whole load of arcade buttons and a few knobs - would do the trick for me.

simplicity :sunglasses:

Midifidler ftw :stuck_out_tongue:

you wont have to wait that long then

I hope you brought your firmware flasher for the MidiFighter to Bali so i can make you rewrite my firmware to my liking while your on holiday lmao :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah and i should have said this earlier ! DJTT is the future of hardware !

i smell midifighters for sale
when?when?when??

No public release date yet, but its all a happening thing !!!

I read somewhere that midifidler would be selling them for like around 160 nzd? Is that true? That’s actually an awesome price when you exchange it in to canadian or u.s dollar =)

That might have been the first run of midifighters that were made my midifidler aaages ago, there were only a very limited number ever made (and i am a very proud owner of one). They ended up actually much more than that too.

We have not released a price for the unit or a release date yet.

Hey bento you think the midifighters are going to have additional controls in the future? ie like some knobs(like 4 horizontally) right beside the 2 joysticks or like 2 faders?

I’d be willing to buy one as long as it doesn’t cost that much which I’m hoping they won’t.

Also do you know how much a midifighter weighs? Doesn’t weight effect the shipping prices drastically for shipping worldwide?

What is this Midifighter everyones talking about:confused: i tried searching for it but couldnt find it?

The midifighter is the arcade button grid that Ean uses to demonstrate his cue point chord routine.

The originals ended up costing about 250 US

We will give a date once we can be sure of it, it is going to be a little different than the Mk1 though.

How different!??!

A mate of mine is getting me to make a Midifighter like controller for him, same idea but I’m gonna try modding the guts of an XBox controller, they have 14 buttons and 6 analogs so I thought of reconfiguring 2 of the analogs as digitals be rewiring the voltage divider so in the end I have a 16 button matrix and 4 joysticks using only left and right, I scored 2 second hand controllers off TradeMe for 15 NZD a steal really so I have enough parts to go nuts with. Will keep u posted.

That would be telling

Pretty much it has been redesigned to make it much cheaper to produce, and therefore much more affordable, it will now have class compliant midi, of course it has also be designed to encourage modification, all software & hardware will also be open source.

Hopefully you haven’t changed the exterior of the unit because it looks good as it as already =). And speaking of modification, it might make more sense when building new gear once I see how it’s really done. Of course I wouldn’t bite your layout though =p
