Garbage Can Speakers

I saw this article and I want to make these: Two Garbage Cans and a Microphone - CDM Create Digital Music
I know I would need:
2x Steel 55 Gallon-Barrels
2x woofer cones (any suggestions)
and an amp (any suggestions)
what else would i need to connect these to my mixer ( can you be specific 
)
seems like a fun project juss to mess around
