Get ready to turn in your wireless axe, microphone and drum kit for a turntable and a pair of headphones.
That’s the word from gaming blog Kotaku (via Eurogamer), which definitively confirms what had long been rumored: “DJ Hero” is indeed coming “later this year,” complete with a turntable for “competitively” spinning and mixing tunes.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick let the news slip during a recent appearance on CNBC, according to Kotaku. Details are still scarce: Kotick is quoted saying that the “DJ Hero” turntable will, indeed, let you “play competitively and spin discs and mix songs,” but that’s about it for now.
The first “DJ Hero” rumors began swirling almost a year ago, after “Guitar Hero” publisher Activision filed a trademark for the game back in February 2008. The buzz flared up again in September, after anonymous sources confirmed the game (reportedly in development for more than two years) to both Kotaku and MTV Multiplayer.
Check out this Kotaku post from September for details on how the “DJ Hero” wireless controller is (or was, at least) shaping up, along with the early word on visuals (apparently, the distinctive, brightly-colored music blobs will stream around a virtual record, rather than down a guitar neck).
So, what do you think: Will the “Hero” series successfully make the jump from guitars to turntables? And are you ready to give “DJ Hero” a spin yourself?
Yeah I would used DJ Hero cuz I want to use it with my rig, the PS3 version will most likely have bluetooth turntables and I will love to port it to traktor3.
But by then Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be out, and alot of my gaming time will be towards COD_MW2.
Anyone else have a PS3 that wants to play online? I dont have any sport games
PS3 owner here. Although I barely play online since my headset broke. Been waiting for months now to get that SOCOM plus the sexy official headset… Sucks to be a gamer in Europe.
Back on topic: DJ hero won’t be as much as a success as GH and RB were because spinning platters just isn’t as exciting as rocking out. But I’ll echo the possibility to put the controller to good use.
Although I doubt it’s gonna feature bluetooth connection - GH instruments each came with their own usb rf dongle.
LOL…Mister Moley Mole…oh man…I don’t scare. It cheapens our profession.
Any bar or club owner is going to hire someone based on a draw of people they bring. Why? Because those people buy drinks.
So it’s conceivable that any Tom, Dick, or Harry who has this game could easily believe they know how to spin live.
I might play Rock Band and Guitar Hero on Expert difficulty, but I’m not about to call a place and tell them I can play some songs for them live, right? It just doesn’t translate that way…
I know .. thats my point … nothing to worry about its all just for fun, and if off the back of it people want to try and spin some toonz then so be it .. if there crap there crap init so this game coming out isnt a big deal.
On the other hand you may find that some people off the back of it think oif giving djing a go and be uber good at it.
I guess my point is it shouldn’t bother current djs in anyway whatsoever, which it seemed to you a little with eth comments about the market getting flooded with “douchebags” (when i hear that word i instantly think kelly osbourne). Who cares if the market is flooded with them at the end of teh day like you said you have to be good to get booked.
Hope i’m making sense … and just incase this translates into a rant i’m not at all … I promise x x x

[/quote]let’s just fucking hug it out
DJs have been wining about douche bags flooding the scene even when everyone was still playing with vinyl. I love the coulture with all my heart, but I’ll be the first to admit that the DJ scene has been pretty ripe with douchebags for a long time- a videogame release isn’t going to effect it that much.
I remember in the late 90s (the height of mass rave popularity) when i was in highschool so many spoiled brats we’re getting turntables/mixer setups from their parents as gifts so that almost every house party I’d go to we’d be forced to hear terrible DJs trainwrecking hard house/trance all night…
Sure there might be a couple more d.bags runnin around doing their best Tiesto impressions after this game is released, but by the same token it might also be what inspires some young punk to be the next great DJ that influences the scene positively.
