I got a gig coming up soon with 2 other friends who are also DJ’s. The last couple of gigs we did were alot smaller and when we swaped between DJs we just had like a 5 second silence when we swapped cables etc.. For this gig i would like us to be a bit more professional and not have any delays between the swaps if possible.
I need some help/advice on how to swap between DJs, as we are using different setups.
Me and my friend are using my CDJ 850’s with DJM 400 with serato running through serato SL4 - with 2 laptops.
My other friend is wanting to use his laptop with his S4 - with TP2.
So that means 3 laptops - 2 of which are going through serato + cdjs, and the other laptop with tsp and an s4.
Whats the easiest way i can set this all up to work ?
I’m sure will will be hooking up the club sound system with an xlr cable.
Ask your buddy with the S4 if he needs to use all 4 decks. You can run the output from the Pioneer to an empty deck on the S4. That seems like the easiest solution
edit: Technically he only needs to change one of the decks to live input while you or your friend are playing on the shared set-up. If he needs 4 decks while he’s playing he can just change it back to a regular deck…just needs to change it back to live input when you want to get back on.
Yea buddy. check out my edit on my 1st post too. It’s easy to do. The only downfall is that if he has problems w/ sound or a laptop crash then you all are screwed.
The only thing is that it’s a 2 channel mixer. If I remember correctly I think there’s 2 inputs for each channel…so yea technically you could do this…I just think it sux for everyone to share one channel on a mixer.
On a side note I think there is a way for everyone to share the SL-4, but I’ve never owned one so I’m not 100% sure if/ or how to.
Think the best way to do things would be to run the S4 into the mixers aux in. This avoids any problems of taking up one of his decks, or the computer crapping out. It might make it a little tricky to beatmatch in though, as you’ve got no way of PFLing the aux in on the DJM400. Will still be better than cable switching silence though.
The other option is to plug the S4 into, for example, Channel 2, while the last track of the previous DJ plays on Channel 1. Just one set of leads to swap, people do far more in the time of one track when changing between DJs. That way you don’t need to go through Traktor when the SL guys are playing, and the Traktor person can mix in seamlessly to whoever was on beforehand.
yeah im planning on getting a djm 800 soon but not in time for this gig! will have it ready for the next one will try this all out soon and let you guys know if it works!
