Good books? Jail time :/

Good books? Jail time

Poor decisions in driving w/o a license have led me to a 6 month jail sentence. Anyone have good book recommendations? A few “topics” I’d be interested in. DJ techniques, programming basics, iPhone app development, and pretty much anything along those lines. I’m considering a trade school for IT or programming upon release.

Also are there any good magazines in the DJ culture? Or audio gadgets in general?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. Maybe even something along the audio engineering lines that define things we see in software very descriptively. Flanger, reverb, etc. I know what they sound like through hands on experience only, unfortunately that’s not an option. I’d be KILLING it if it was! 6 months of solid practice and sorting of my 200+ gigs.

Maybe I can DreamJ lol

maybe this then:

That looks to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. Great find.

+1 on Mastering Audio

Also check out “The War of Art” by Stephen Pressfield… I cannot emphasize this one enough. Again, it’s the WAR of ART, not Art of War lol.

Oh and here’s a link to 400,000 ebooks for freeeeee downloaaad! (you’re gonna need it)

EDIT here’s a good looking one I just found:

Dance Music Manual: Toys, Tools and Techniques:

Good luck son!

yeah Dance Music Manual that’s one of the ones I suggested above – highly recommended. I have vol 1, I don’t think vol 2 is out yet but vol 1 is amazing.

The downside is that without a computer to practice with, a lot of programming books will be pretty useless. Still…

You need to learn a linux shell. Use it for everything. I like Korn Shell, but BASH is a bit more common these days.

Python is a great scripting and “glue” language. It is available pre-installed on most linux platforms. This is my scripting language of choice.

Perl is the language that powers a stunningly large number of websites. And it is a good all round scripting and system administration automation language.

If you wanna learn programming, Thinking In Java is one of the best books to read:
http://mindview.net/Books/TIJ4

However, my sincere recommendation is reading the Law Of One material:
PDFs: The Law of One - L/L Research
On-line: http://lawofone.info/
Hard Copies (book 1-5): L/L Research Online Store
It’s unrelated to the topics you’ve asked for, but it’s a valuable reading (although weird, I know)

Depending on your starting level, and learning style…the “Head First” series from ORiely are great. They have books on Programming (in general), Design Patterns (for Object Oriented languages), Java, HTML, and many others.

Good Luck

I was going to say the same thing. I understand its a bit off topic, but driving without a licence in my opinion isn’t an offence worthy of jail time (very few are, I suppose).

This is rediculous. Can you not appeal it? I understand lawyers are expensive, but so is going to jail for half a year. A lawyer is probably less expensive considering most would take payments on a monthly basis.

What is wrong with the world when a millionaire can steal millions and get nothing, but if I stole $1000 to buy food for me and my family, or drove a car without a licence I’d be locked up and treated as a dangerous criminal.

I guess thats what happens when right wing idiots start making laws. “Just let anyone have guns, don’t help anyone who is poor, and lock up everyone who smokes a joint because they are obviously going to rape and murder my good christian family”.

sorry folks,
