Had a play on an S4 whilst xmas shopping and…

I didn’t like it…

That thing is huge, couldn’t see how you’d put that in a booth easily.

I really thought i’d love it when i first got to see it / have a play with it.

Nope

Defo wouldn’t swap my vci-100 arcade for it. The buttons are rank on the S4 i thought…

Anyway, just putting that out there (mainly cause I got 1000 posts in sight and I’ll kind of post anything right now)

I just got mine today…I have not owned a VCI Arcade but have owned a vci-100 & a vci-300. I will give a full report soon. I was thinking it would be good for home and the x1 for taking out.

I mean, i’m really a two deck kind of dj so have no need for the 4 decks… and the sample deck thing i doubt i would use much.

horses for course too

lol

Just replying to this now… cause it gets me another post!!!

Sounds like you…

I just got one, it is big (so the ladies tell me), I haven’t got my head completely around the 4 deck or sample recording, but the loop sampling is great, and it’s a lot of fun. Really opens up some things that were difficult or impossible on the VCI-100.

Took some getting used to, but it grew on me very quickly.

Oh, and the soundcard is great so far, haven’t put it on a big system yet, but on the home amp there’s no difference from my old audio 4.

Time will tell…

Yeah in fairness, it looked like there was a learning curve… which I appreciate.

Am up for hearing from people who sold their VCI-100 SE and slightly regret it, just wondering?

Cause I know a lot of people must have bought it online based on the videos / hype and now they’ve had time, are they stoked or slightly bummed?

I honestly wouldn’t swap my VCI-100 SE Arcade though.

I don’t think

my m8 got it last week and we both spend the all evening the other day playing with it…
After several hours with the S4 I’m definitely sure I’m gonna stick with my 2 X1+audio8 combo… didnt really feel it, I mean, it’s def fun but not something that I’ll gig with it…

Really stupid / somewhat OT question: Any idea if there’s a mapping for the s4 for traktor pro? I find myself using 3 decks more and more so unless the s4 software lets the 3rd and 4th decks be optional sample decks… it will actually limit me.

2 x X1s appeals to me more for some reason too…

well, it’s not for everyone. I’d rather see diversity in the booth

U can turn 3 & 4 into regular decks.

Different strokes for different folks really.

I think it depends entirely on your own personal style of mixing. Some folks feel bound by only 2 decks, and want to use 3 (usually) or 4. A lot of it depends on the style of music you play, and generally how you work your transitions.

Where I see the S4 coming to the absolute forefront is just it’s pure integration with the software. It’s almost the same style of approach that Serato went at with ITCH, but this time it’s with NI and Traktor.

Personally? I really like it. But I could also see the potential hassle that bringing it into a cramped booth might create. I don’t own one, but I’ve played with one more than a fair bit. And, it does what it’s supposed to do, and it’s relatively well lit and has great response on it’s features.

It’s when you expect “more” of it than any other controller, is when it begins to fall short. I thing too many people have hyped it up because they adore/own one, and so those with pre-existing specialized setups, might not have AS good a transition over to one.

for me the size puts me off. Saw a friend of mine post a pic of it on facebook and its a monster. There is no way its a portable system you could take into a club booth. I’m sure some people will disagree. But I think if you carting around kit that size your mental.

Had to take that quote out of context.

Yep yep.

That’s how I have mine set up. 3 regular decks and 1 sample deck (4 samples).

Also, i just prefer that the mapping of the VCI-100, fader fx etc and the echo and slicer buttons next to cue/play.

So intuitive.

Also now that it’s 1.4 it just feels like HID to me, maybe a touch not quite but so almost that it doesn’t matter.

Sorry to go on, it just feels nice to be happy with what i’ve got for once rather than hankering after something else (which I secretly was before I had a go on S4).

Big up DJTT for coming up with the Arcade SE bidniz!!! Seriously still super powerful even with all the advances in technology!

Merry Christmas everyone

After a few hours I can say that I love it. It may be big but I think it should fit on a 1200 with some sort of platform. 4 deck goodness…believe the hype.

gonna have to admit i wasn’t as impressed as i hoped to be at bpm. still impressive, but i think i let some of the hype ruin it for me… lol

but then i have always said i’m more interested in the S4 software than the controller…
