HDJ 1000 or V-Moda Crossfader LP

HDJ 1000 or V-Moda Crossfader LP

I’ve made my choice, it’s either one of this two, both at my price range.

Pioneer as industry standard with the HDJ 1000’s or the V-Moda crossfader LP, i’m looking on someone that has owned both or used both and could tell me which one is better.

I’m looking for good sound quality and comfort.

Well the HDJ1000s are known for poor durability and the sound is so so. Never heard the V-Modas but they look like a Cylon.

Also there is no such thing really as industry standard headphones, and the closest to any standard is HD 25s.

Ean rocked the Vmodas in one of the vids recently

V-Modas are good, I listened in an apple store in SF a year or so ago, side by side with B+W P5s and some other headphones in the $200-400 price range. They had good sound but I was far more seduced by the B+W, which seemed a lot sweeter to me, and the B+Ws had far better isolation despite not being a DJ headphone at all. V-Modas are much more of a design product than functional; I’d be wary of their durability (same with the Pios for that matter). Personally I’d take another look at the Senns or the TMAs if I were you, but it depends how much sound isolation is important to you.

The v Moda’s are built like tanks. They even have a tank on the side of the box =P
Seriously tho… No build issues with them vs pios but I havnt listened to the pios so can’t compare sound
Love my crossfades so far tho

I was told by a fellow dj that the Senhs HD25 were the best headphones he had ever used. Then again i’ve seen lots of dj’s here using the v-modas. I added the HDJ-1000 to the list because it’s on my price range. I can’t afford anything over 200$ right now. And the V-modas are 110$.

If you want over ear the best bet are Xone: XD-53s or HDJ-2000s. XD-53s are in your budget and make HDJ-1000s look like toys and are built like a tank. The XD2-53s are coming out soon which add a replaceable cord.

HD25s are great on ear headphones and have been around for ages. Supposedly TMA-1s are kind of like an improved, updated HD25 but I haven’t heard them.

You really need to decide if you want on ear or over ear first as that narrows down your choices.

I’d be more wary of the spam. And weary of it too, for that matter.

In a straight fight, it’s the VMODAs hands down.

Here’s what I thought: http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/vmoda_crossfade.php

I’d go with the advice of Xonetacular and DJWORX.

And idd the HDJ1000 have durability issues, I’d try the HDJ1500s when they hit the shelves.
(supposedly improved sound and durability, and rumor has it, the 1500s will replace the 1000s  )

That review doesn’t speak so well for the v-modas- basically says they are all style and sound/isolation is lacking. I guess it’s preference but I don’t even think they look great and look pretty tacky.

Xone XD53 look like my type of headphones, Xonetacular, have you ever used them? If so, comfort, sound isolation, sound quality? I can’t mix anymore with skullcandies. I’m going to buy new headphones this week and it’s between the Xone’s or the V-modas.

As long as you don’t have a small head they are awesome. Very durable, and are the best sounding over ear headphones I’ve used- are a little bass heavy but nothing absurd it is just a clean, full, rich sound. They are kind of heavy for being mostly plastic but are very solid. I own a pair and am on my second set after my first were stolen. Decent isolation for being over ear and you can crank them up without distorting and they have huge 53mm drivers. You shouldn’t even compare the v-modas to them.

And i prefer over ear headphones

Have you used V-modas before??

I’ve tried both (Xone 53s and V-Modas) and the 53s are by FAR the superior headphone, at least in terms of sound. The Xones are loud, clear, and punchy in the low end. The V-Modas sounded just fine though as I recall and also had a heavy low end; I don’t think you’d be unhappy with the sound.

My problem with both of those headphones is the isolation - but I think this is a personal thing; for some people over ear are better than on-ear but for me it’s on-ear. I love the isolation in my TMAs but in the Xones I had a problem with it; playing at a loud gig with the Xones was very difficult. I never used the V-Modas at a gig so I don’t know but just based on listening in the store I thought there was a lot of sound leaking in. But for some people - probably depends on the shape of your head more than the size of it - it’s the opposite, so you should check both out for yourself if you can.

I own all 3. The HDJ-1000’s are on their 3rd replacement-one had a broken joint and two had their cables go bad. I’m not going to be even bothering asking for a 3rd. The Xone53’s sound great, but they had a pretty bad joint crack. I glued it and it is holding. The V-Moda’s are my fav out of the three. They are built extremely well, sound great, and feel very comfortable. The 53’s have less leak, but the isolation on the V-Moda’s is decent enough. The 53’s sound more neutral and “true”, but the V-Moda’s have a bigger low end without sounding like a bad Beats clone.

I think i’m going for the Xone53’s, i don’t think i’ll be playing on a very loud gig anytime soon, so isolation won’t be much of a problem. About the size of my head, well let’s say it’s big, so maybe i get better isolation in compensation?

I’ve made my desition, it’s the xones.

Funkagenda has been rocking V-Modas for about a year now. he seems to like them very much.

I have a pair of Vmoda. Only complaint is that the cord if you wrap it around the headphones the wire will pop out the kevlar braid and start to kink.
