HDJ-1000’s: Mono or Stereo?

Hey all,

So what’s the difference between the Mono and Stereo selections on the HDJ-1000’s? I recognize a difference in the sound but I can’t quite place what exactly is happening…

I’ll get to researching after I post this but thought I might as well share with everyone how much of a bozo I am

mono gives you the same output in both cups.
comes in handy when you just put one cup to your ears while cueing.

But come on, what is the diff between mono and stereo? :stuck_out_tongue:

mono = left & right channel represented in each cup

stereo = left & right separation in each cup as recorded

for example with a rock track you might hear drums spread across left and right, bass in the left channel, guitar in the right channel, and the vocals spread evenly across left and right ‘in the middle’… but if you played that in mono you would hear everything in the left ear, and everything in the right ear (no distinguishable difference in either)

mono will sound ‘flatter’ as there is no extra colour from the mix coming through ie subtleties like a slight pan or something that makes the sound ‘wider’

Hahahaha I know stupid flipping question but my brain is all loopy
been studying for a bio exam all day
