Lol, looks like a neat little creature. Is he able to be handled?
Of course, actually he’s pretty cool at being handled and will snuggle up to you if he’s sleepy ![]()
… just gotta be careful you don’t startle him too much when you try to pick him up or you’ll get a handfull of spikes (and yes they are bloody sharp) … I “almost” dropped him one night when he flexed the spikes while I was holding him, but caught him after a few inches drop and had bloody pin pricks all over my hand.
Oh and if something on your hands smells nice he’ll nip you, but not in an aggressive way, its just their way of getting used to smells and tastes.
Great pic! Are their spikes like those of a porcupine whey they can “flex” them when they are startled, or are they always just in one position?
Yep they do flex them when they are startled, and are kinda like a Porcupine but hedgies don’t drop theirs like porcupines .. and I believe they are less flexible than a porcupines spines (which are hollow) as they are actually made of the same stuff as hair…
Hedgehogs are fun. I had to watch a friends hog while he was on vacation one year. Their quils aren’t that bad. Don’t think they are barbd like a porcupines if I remember correctly.
Hope your little friend does well!
I’ve been thinkin about getting one, and after this I think i’m gonna go ahead and do it. Looks like a nice pet!
AWWW!
It is cute bro!
Male …female?
Are the stomach’s as soft as i have heard?
In answer:
If you are thinking of getting one, be warned ..
I’d imagine in a colder climate they’d be a pain in the ass to take care of.
LOL…I am in South Africa…will have to ship one over!

I caught one once with a bucket when I was a kid living in Germany. I only handled it wearing gloves, but by the biting and general upset that it seemed to have, I decided letting it go back in the woods was best. Still it was pretty cool to get to play with one close up, and if it ever relaxed, it would have been cool to have around.
