Help Me Complete My Set-Up!

Sup DJTechTools,

Couple months ago I was a newbie asking some amateur questions.

After I was confident I could learn to mix live (I had been into studio mixing previous) I got a VCI-100 and Presonus Firebox and got to mixing!

Now, I have reached a point where I have done small house parties and such and skill-wise I think I am ready to go for paid live venues.

I plan on buying a pair of Peavy 215’s and a Peavey 118 Subwoofer!

I have two questions!

  1. What amp would you guys recommend. I have heard some good things about QSC’s. Obviously it/they need to be able to power the above with a bit of headroom. My price range is about $200-450

  2. I have reached a point where the VCI-100 is a big inadequate for me. I am in need of an external mixer to perhaps hook up another VCI-100. Can you recommend a decent external mixer for me to hook up some external sound FX mixers, and perhaps a midi control pad and another VCI-100!

Thanks!

wats ya budget? we’re doin the same usin an Xone 4

Just to be clear, you want an external mixer, and a pad controller to complement your VCI-100?

Well, an external mixer is a definate yes. As to whether I want to hook up a pad controller whatever it be, thats a maybe.

Simply, I just want the ability to expand. Whether it be a keyboard, a controller or some FX modules.

Xone!
we pluggin 2 vcis in

What model of Xone?

Any more suggestions guys!

i just have a small question.. why would you want a full-on external mixer instead of using your VCI’s?

such a noob question i know, but just curious

I am not sure you would call it a “full-on” external mixer.

I am talking about a small DJ mixer. Not a board like you would find at a Club.

The reason I want to have an external mixer rather then use internal mixxing via VCI-100 is because I would like some additions to my set-up’s output.

lol @ Kaon

we have a korg zero 4 bro!

and its baddass, though a bit over kill for you I think jaycee

Haha..

Any suggestions!?

what’re you planning on adding into the outputs?

also, thanks for the explanation!

You have a laptop and a VCI-100. You already have massive amounts of expandability. This is not to bash the idea of an external mixer.

To give you the best ideas for you, tell us what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend. There are lots of options to expand with that don’t involve an external mixer, just more MIDI gear (which I’m a HUGE fan of)

i am thinking of getting a Vestax CDJ for backup purposes. Would I need an external mixer of would this simply go into the amp and therefore out to the speakers whenever I actually played something on it…or would I need a pair of them..

Sorry, i have been gone for a week!
