I’ve been heavily influenced with the G-House movement and as a producer I’ve been having a hard time to construct a simple bass from the G-House genre. It has a deep and funky feel to it, but most of all, its really HEAVY!
Here are some of the examples im trying to point out -
Your problem is your trying to make one bass that does it all. Most things are layered so the main synth and the bass are 2 different synths. One is eq’ed above 150Hz. the sub bass 150hz and below.
Thanks for the advice! You exactly pointed out my problem, which was focusing only on the bass. Can you give me more details on it though? like does it matter if the bass is a sine wave or a saw for a heavy feel? how can I give the main synth a stab feel to it?
1st layer was a basic sine wave.
2nd Layer was a present, that is a saw tooth wave with a cutoff envelope on the filter. Also the amp envelope has a quite long release on it.
And for the bass I used I think 4 different layers.
1 - Sub Bass - Just A sine wave using sonic academy’s synth ANA
2- Mid Bass - Square wave with a cutoff envelope on it. Also I used so distortion to bring out some of the top end.
3,4 - Top Bass - These were just duplicates of the mid bass but pitched one and two octaves higher respectively.
Obviously all these bass’s were EQ’ed differently to the respective layers they were in. EX// Sub bass was eq’ed so that all the mid and high frequencies were removed.
Also with layers 3 and 4 I added some stereo width and used some delay on them to give the bass a wider feel.
Im only learning now to produce G House but I am pleased with the results im coming up with. And Im finding that the bass sound punch comes from the cuttoff envelope on the filter. Slow decay on the envelope. No sustain and some release.
