personally i used to go slightly mad with the pitchfader for a few seconds (sometimes quite a few seconds i was never all that fast) until i got it in sync - no clue what u mean there.
that was with tt’s tho - so no button to press to cue from the start automatically again…
even if you were pressing the cue to drop the track, tweaking the pitch and then dropping the track again you’d still not be “moving it slowly” unless you wanted to take an age to beat match…
damn… i miss my 1200’s now… i’m sure i used to have pretty crap technique but it usually got me there being a drummer used to help with ‘hearing’ the beats etc tho. always found it easier starting the tune too fast than too slow anyway - and dragging the outside of the platter - than the reverse.
for all the advantages of controllers etc there’s still something extra about using vinyl… never mixed on cdj’s but i cant see the appeal of them really except as its what seems to be used in clubs mostly these days…
I hear the response isn’t great using them as a controller. + my traktor is expensive.
Better idea- Buy some usb sticks! the CDJ400s take usb sticks. Just throw on whatever tunes you want and have a play about with them
@zestoi - vinyl’s banging enit I do actually kinda wanna try using some CDJs. All I use atm is timecode control so if CDJs turn out to be for me it’d be nice to ditch the laptop and just carry some CDs and headphones. Still I don’t see how it could capture the same feel as with vinyl…
i’ve only got TP2 and if i bought some decks again i might think about picking up serato - i like the idea of the waveforms being displayed vertically for one thing if i was mixing manually…
to me CDJ’s just seem like a half way house between vinyl-awesomeness and controllerism-goodness without having enough of either.
350’s are supposed to be the newer versions of the 350’s. I think the only real difference is the use of rekorderbox. I looked at them and for the price difference didn’t see a big advantage in getting them over 400’s
the reason i ask is because i saw a deal, 2x cdj350 for $600
i may consider getting those instead. which brings me back to the main concept of getting the cdj200, which is just for mixing/blending and recording my dj sets. price for 2x cdj350 is 10x better than cdj200
from what i can see the 350 supports more formats, can be used as a controller in the future if you wanted, supports rekordbox, has heavier jogs but no lights on them and more accurate pitch control (possibly).
if it was me i’d go for the 350’s just for the controller option and rekordbox compatability - would help if playing out in a club as the meta info will be compatible.
@zestoi - there is one HUGE advantage to CDJs which everyone seems to overlook and I’m starting to find really attractive- the convenience factor. You don’t have to carry a controller, crates of records, cables, controllers, anything other than a few CDs! And when you get to the venue you just stick in the CD and plug in your headphones, record set up time! You try that with any DVS eh?
Still I’ve not used them so I don’t know if it’s really worth it.
true… and i was impressed with the rekordbox video that i watched the other week. seems a bit like ‘traktor in the controller’-ish
plus must admit i’ve been impressed with watching james zabiela using them for scratching too and they seem to have bigger jogs than most controllers.
if i had the spare cash i’d probably pick some up to use as controllers and then if i got into playing out again feeling at home on cdj’s would mean being able to use the clubs rig as u said.
Using high end CDJs as controllers is foolish in my eyes. Those things are so powerful you don’t need software. Spesh when working with the new DJMs. Sadly no club will ever have them so it’ll be purely a bedroom luxury.
As for rekordbox I think it’s an amazing idea, DVS without all the setup, excellent! Sadly those I’ve spoken to who have compatible CDJs claim it’s not very stable.
Not that I see much point in a DVS with CDs… Come on, how hard is it to fucking carry a wallet of CDs?
do you guys have more info or video on what the function is behind the rekordbox?
also i wont be using them as controllers, i decided i will only do cdjs and vinyls, im leaving vinyls for a later time, so i may just be a usb/cd dj for my career of rest of my life =P
true - but i’ve kind of gotten used to all the effects in traktor and integrating multiple controllers via my own software. but yep would be fun to use them standalone too. if i had the spare cash i’d buy them and probably use them mostly as controllers - but i don’t so it’s a mute point anyway
also true… there was something cool about hulking round a couple of fully laiden record bags tho
there’s definately something cool about vinyl - but controllers have their own merits. i wouldn’t rule out any type of control surface (cdj/vinyl/midi controller) if i was you until having tried them
Basically you plug your CDJ into a laptop and you can play tracks on your laptop with the CDJs. It’s stupid really since you can just carry a hard drive with all your tunes on and plug that into the SAME PORT and not have to worry about the software crashing.
yes thanks to that video, the reaktorbox is a dumb idea, i’m just putting cds in / usb stick in. i dont want any laptops or care for laptops.
yes it is a good deal, a $800 setup which fits my $1000 budget im putting on a credit card, i will get it soon. and start practicing how to mix/beatmatch
