i was thinking of lengthening the last part. I’m still fighting with myself on whether I should do it or not. Figured I’d see what others have to say about it before I do such a drastic thing, after all I am my own worst critic!

all my tracks are available for free download as they always will be

enjoy!

Just listening through my laptop speakers, but I really like it

In my opinion you should lengthen the last part.

thanx man! yea I made several versions. I wasnt sure if letting that last dubby breakdown ride out longer would’ve made the track drift to far, thanx for the input!

Here’s my feedback.

  • It sounds like one of your tracks, and I like your sound and style in general, so I wasn’t surprised to like this.

  • If I could make one general critique of your sound it is that some of the sounds you are using sound “one-note” or “dry” and because you have relatively few instruments playing, the sound ends up sounding a bit “simplistic” or “thin”. I feel like this lack of sonic complexity doesn’t do the quality of your programming and overall aesthetic sense much justice. As simple examples, vocal samples or sound effects or even just a new instrument introduced in a bridge might help it sound less “sparse” in this way?

  • There is a neat melodic turnaround in the first half of the song which I think gets a bit overused. I am personally, at least, tired of it “surprising” me with the turnaround after about the 4th time it does it. I really liked it the first 3 times, so maybe just some editing here?

  • Regarding the dubby bit at the end.. this is when I really started bobbing my head and going “oh yeah,” etc. If it were me, I would switch the first breakdown with the second breakdown, so it’s like.. “straight beat - breaky breakdown/build - back into the straight beat!”. I really like the dubby bit at the end, and I think it is least affected by the “sparseness” I’m trying to describe above.

  • I feel like I could use more of an intro/outro, and honestly wouldn’t mind if the track were about a minute longer, for structural purposes. Especially given the compare/contrast aspect of two major themes, one straighter and the other breakier.

Thanks for posting, and keep at it!

I can always rely on you for really good professional feedback, thanx a lot man! I will try those things out…its weird whenever i listen to the mix on my monitors everything sounds as it should, but as soon as i throw on the headphones (granted they aren’t the best) I get that infamous “hollow” sound. More than likely it’s the stereo image i get from the separated distance of the monitors and resonance effect they have in my room that gives it the illusion of sounding more full. I tried boosting the mids to help fill in the sonic gap but it’s still subtly present…I know most people are listening to this track on cheap speakers or headphones so im pretty positive they are not getting all the sounds as some are tucked under frequencies…grrr
