HID-to-MIDI conversion

HID-to-MIDI conversion

So I was reading this:

…and decided it’d be a swanky thing to break down the USB game pad I’ve used once since buying it 8 years ago, whip out a soldering gun, and turn it into a control for running loops out of decks C and D in Traktor Pro.

The only issue I’m running into during the pre-planning phase is finding a solid HID-to-MIDI application. Everything looks like it was written for Win95, whereas I’m running 64-bit Win7.

Does anyone know of a for-sure working program that’ll take care of my problem?

Use our favourite Bome’s Midi Translator

Cripes. Kinda defeats the purpose of a DIY kitbashing session, doesn’t it?

Thanks for the suggestion, though. I’m currently giving this a whirl:

Wish me luck!

Yeah it seems pricey at first but you can do a lot with it.

Tell us if Fergo’s JoystickMIDI does the trick.

It seems to recognize everything on my gamepad, which is a great start.

There’s a button on the pad that disables the analog sticks and switches the d-pad to an X/Y-axis control; Windows seems to recognize the d-pad even when the analogs are engaged but this program is either/or. (I wonder if I can use this creatively…)

Now I just need a way to pipe midi messages. Midi Yoke is playing hard to sausage, but that’s likely due to the extreme differences in OS architectures.

Awesome! Just installed LoopBe1 and things seem to be working. I’m going to break out a notepad, take down some mapping notes and see if I can use a joystick as a fader. If this works, I’ll have found a cheap HID control board to make a pretty solid control out of. Should be something like… 10 buttons and 4 sliders, not too shabby.

Awww did this work 0_0 im looking out for interesting joystick uses on a diy midi controller =p=p=p

do a search in the controllers subforum… there’s absolutely loads of thread like this there.

I’m personally a fan of an xbox1 joypad
