Being a beginner, everything is new to me and since my setup is on a normal table, I was sitting at first playing with my S4 and Traktor. But as a couple months past, I noticed, I could actually mix better, if I stood up and could dance a little with the beat. Is that just me or something completely normal? Is that why most DJ booths are also set up so the DJ is standing?
Now I am looking for ways to raise my equipment so I don’t have to bend over it.
So is dancing while DJing important to good DJing? Seems that way to me now. It just seems easier, when I’m standing. I remember Ean wrote a blog on the subject. But it was about dancing to the beat. Sitting wasn’t even an issue.
When I’m mixing I stand to dance and get into the music, then when it comes to producing or even well thought out mixes between multiple songs (at once) I sit down
And
Dancing is crucial to really feel the emotion (if thats the right word) of the crowd and to dance with crowd makes it more of an experience for everyone…thats what the djiing is about, to bring an experience that people will remember..
haha it’ll happen sooner than you think! If you’re gonna start at house parties or something remember to bring loud speakers…
Thats the exact problem I had the first house party I did, people kept on screaming LOUDER, LOUDER, LOUDER, but then again I was not expecting the amount of people that were there through the night..
I vividly remember a packed house from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
No matter what happens it’ll just make you that much better in the end…
Imo if you aren’t rocking out to your own music how do you expect anyone else to? People stare at the DJ all night sometimes. Its pretty damn boring when someone in glued to the screen, or glued to the decks all night with their head never checking out the crowd. The more high energy you are the more everyone else is.
Spent some time in ICU recently, and when I got home, all I wanted to do was listen to music and fired up my S4. I literally was to weak to stand. SITTING JUST DID NOT FEEL RIGHT. I shut it down and only played again when I was able to stand. In an interview with Joris Voorn he says DJ = DANCE JOCKEY.
I usually sit at home when practicing, but this is because my table is too low, so standing up bending over the controller hurts my back & neck if I do it for too long.
Even though im only a beginner, I tried to replicate what it would be like to play in a night club, (without the CDJ’s) only in my bedroom I always practice with the lights off and curtains drawn, I have invested in a smoke machine, a laser light (ones used in clubs/raves), strobe light, 12" powered PA speakers and a 10" powered sub I love my mini night club hehe Oh,in a night club DJ booth you would stand up… So I stand up too
