How big is the DJM-900 for Traktor and NI
The DJM-900 is a traktor scratch certified mixer! This seems like a major victory for NI. What do you all think?

If this will be the new club standard, I think this will be a big win for NI. This will be like the equivalent of the Serato box which is available in most clubs, but for Traktor…
How often does a club switch out a mixer that’s not broken? For that matter, how often do they replace a mixer that is broken? It’ll take some time before you start seeing these a standard installation I think.
Serato vs Traktor really is starting to feel like [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videotape_format_war[/ame] or (for our younger brethren) Blu-Ray vs HD DVD.
Until one wins (which isn’t looking likely) I can’t see either becoming truly truly standard
As far as the poll goes the guys that want to use Serato will just continue to use their cards as usual.
A lot of clubs in london hire their equipment. So they will ask for a new model with little extra cost.
exactly…! the amount of faulty gear in my local club is ludicrous! not to mention they have a room FULL of broken shit beyond repair or in need of extreme TLC. they had about 6 pairs of 1200’s last time i was in there a couple of years back.. not to mention 3-4 broken denon cdj’s and a few various pioneer cdjs and mixers. and random speakers and amps from previous installs.
looks sick, will be a while before i see one though im sure
NI is the winner here by a looooooong way.
The whole “Serato is the industry standard” is only a view held in America, it holds no water at all for the rest of the world.
The whole “Pioneer is the industy standard” is true the whole world over.
People are stupid, they pat attention to this kind of crap. There will a lot people being more convinced of the NI DVS legitemacy just because of this Traktor-Pioneer hook up.
At £1,400 im not sure its gonna be my next mixer unless i can get one at Trade price but venues will hire them in as said above.
I really want a new TSP Cert mixer but unless the Xfader can be changed i wont be looking at this.
Its not ground breaking but its typical Pioneer. They are gonna start saturating the DVS/controller market with loads of models just like thay have with the CDJ market.
Anyone wanna buy a Korg Zero 4 (mint condition)
But that’s only for turntables (and mixers in Japan). Any video I see of a pro DJing, he’s using an A&H. The big clubs in Japan anyway, at least stock an A&H Xone 92. I know at least one have it and a DJM-800… I assume they ask the DJs preference before setting it up for the night.
On that note, the small ones (which make up about 90% of the party scene here) are still using CDJ-1000’s and DJM-800. Usually at least the mixer has had the shit kicked out of it.
Totally agree.
Its just the perception that im talking about here though and perception counts for a lot.
Yeah i agree that many Pros would not even look at a DJM800 but there is a whole world of people that consider it to the the standard and this covers Bar DJs to big club DJs and those venues are the one that follow the sheep.
I can see this mixer continuing the reign of DJM mixers in millions of clubs world wide.
Ive only played on one DJM 800 that wasnt a load of crap. The rest were loose and had bits missing.
The CDJ-2000 didn’t exactly live up to all its hype but clubs are still buying them in their thousands. I agree, I think this is going to gradually take over from the 800 as the standard mixer as the 800 itself did from the 600 5 years ago.
And that’s a massive win for NI!
My guess is that the new EDM club standard will be a 900Nexus with an SL4 plugged in the back.
But, it has a few shortcomings…
At least it’s not as ridiculously overpriced as I thought it would be…it’s only normal-level overpriced.
IMO, it’s the most exciting thing that Pioneer has released since the first gen CDJ-1000…unfortunately, that’s not saying much at all.
You haven’t seen many pros play, have you? I’ve only seen 6 play on anything else: Oakenfold used a Rane Rotary one of the times I saw him in 2003…every time I’ve seen him since, it was on an 800; I saw Armin van Buuren, Sasha, and Steve Porter play on xone:92s (actually, the same one) in 2004-2005, though the only thing i’ve seen any of them on since was an 800…it’s in at least Sasha’s technical rider and has been basically since it came out; Carl Cox at least used to prefer the mixer Vestax made for him; and ritchie hawtin uses his ctrl:92. Conversely, almost everyone else uses whatever the club or promo company has, which is almost always the 800.
I agree with you that they’re always broken, and for the price I consider them crap mixers. But they’re still what’s in booths 95% of the time…your choices today are play on an 800 or bring your own mixer and have the clout to make them switch it out…and be willing to let everyone else play on your personal mixer every night you use it.
I’d never buy one, because I like to own mixers that don’t suck (I’m still iffy on my 62) but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t made my peace with playing on them every time I play out.
Even the shitty places in Atlanta have 800s…unless they’re sketchy enough that they installed behringer. Since it came out, the only places I’ve seen anything better are house parties.
2600$ for a mixer is a little bit much for almost all but the top of the top. I like pioneer products but I wish they made lower costing products. I know the build quality is top notch but I would take a stripped down 900 anyday which is basically a 800 so I’ll just save for one of those
Hopefully they go down in price with this coming out.
Never really read up on the Nexus until now, but it’s basically just an 800 with a ton of MIDI capability correct?
(For that extra $1,000? Haha)
No its not.
Its a DJM 800 with more FX but crucially an internal soundcard of good quality.
Is it worth £1600..? Not really
the thing basically adds loop roll to traktor which i find really cool, but apart from that its just another ridiculously priced pioneer mixer.
On the plus side, DJM 800s may drop to a reasonable price for used units sometime in the near future.
I think they took the DJM 800 and added a few hundred and then the price of a rane soundcard…just saying.

My best mate books talent from all over the world. I usually hang out with them… not just see them.

Any “big” club I go to here as a Xone 92… and Japan are the biggest label whores you’ve ever seen (and A&H means nothing here). They’re trying to appease the foreign talent.
Most of the videos I see on Youtube and shit, as well, show A&H. I doubt when it comes down to it most are not going to throw a fit if it’s one or the other. I did witness first hand once case where a DJ did demand a specific mixer (for it’s effects) and would not play without it. This was a while back though.
