How did your NYE gig's go ?

How did your NYE gig’s go ?

mine was god awful.

I had one and ended up with a beer-soiled monitor and cables getting ripped out of my gear. :L

Mine went flawlessly but it was in my loft so it should’ve. :stuck_out_tongue:!

I dunno if it counts, but I got thrown in the deep end for work, and had to do lighting OP for a rock/pop concert =P. Most lighting experience I’ve had is in small theatres, and this was for a crowd of a few thousand in a park (I think it hit 15k at one stage). Different kind of gig, but still fun.

Nothing like gaining experience through a “trial by fire”. The best, most accelerated way to learn.

The people at my gig were so drunk they screamed “yeah dubstep!” when I played some funk for them for shits and giggles. Lovely crowd, just wanted them further away from my table with all their damn champagne.

I had a great set last night , started a tad early because people were eager for music , so began playing at around 9:30 and finished sometime around 2 to let some other DJ finish off the night.

The only thing I can see that went wrong was a girl who kept coming into my booth asking for “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore every fifteen minutes.

I mean did you ever play it? That song gets the hands down biggest hype over here still.. Especially on nye.

OMFG ROFL!!! Same here man… some chick came out asking for that Thrift shop song for like 30 min… i was like i don’t have it she said i got it on my iphone… i told her i didnt have the cable  then i droped Chuckie and Jermain dupree mashup and the place went nuts

I played from 11:30pm-3am. There was a live rock band that played from 9:30 to 10:30 then another dj went on before me and started spinning drum and bass and dubstep… well sadly he got his set cut short and i went on :disappointed: not my decision… all and all it’s all about preparing. The more you play out the better you are at reading crowds. The right song at the right time will always outperform a technically perfect set. but it dont hurt to do both :stuck_out_tongue:

started at 9 finished at 5 in the morning. people coming into the kioth when i was drunk touching my stuff cause they used to “dj in the club 20 years ago”. got fed up by 1 and couldn’t give a shit after that.

Another dj and I were supposed to trade off from midnight until four. He got on at twelve, and when I got on at 12:30 he mumbled something in my ear that ended with “Have a nice night man” and that was the last I saw of him. I was kind of pissed that he dipped out and left me to go the whole night, but we got shut down for too many fights and too much noise at two anyway. The crowd loved it while it lasted, so it was a good night.

Probably one of the best and most enjoyable sets I’ve played in a long while, I came on after Bill Brewster and played 3-5am and kept it deep but jumping. Wicked crowd, wicked sound system (funktion one).

Loved it

mine went very well. got the freedom to play anything i wanted and the crowd went along. we have different group of friends that listen to different types of house. some are dancers, ragers, and some are hip hop heads. so, i went all over the place from progressive, deep, bass, disco, trap, electro, and dubstep. can’t complain on anything atm.

DJ’d at the club I’m resident DJ of.

Was brilliant. Night started off slow but by 11pm it was rammed.

Brought in the New Year with a voice over Don’t You Worry Child and when it kicked in, the club pyrotechnics went off and the place just exploded.

Had 2 power cuts at around 1.30am which was no fun at all, no music for 5 minutes or so, came back on and then went off again for another 5 minutes, absolute nightmare scenario! Felt like crying. Just so happy it didn’t happen at midnight.

I played the 11-midnight slot on Nu-Rave Radio for a special edition of my show ‘This Is Our House’. Had a great time, dropped some of the top Future Jungle & Rave Breaks of 2012, no House as per usual at all funnily enough. 2013 is going to be a big year for Future Jungle/Rave Breaks, really getting more and more exposure, a lot of the UK Dubstep & D&B peeps moving across or putting out remixes in this vein.

Anyway if you fancy some nice underground Future Jungle/Rave Breaks in the mix, please feel free to listen to This Is Our House with Lofty on Nu-Rave Radio NYE2012 show:

Why this called “Future Jungle”, to me this sounds like early 90’s stuff. or am I missing something? Anyhow, great mix, thanks for sharing.

Exactly what im wondering.

It doesn’t sound like the jungle style I was expecting.

I was expecting something more like this.

played dj with my apple tv, brought out the LED lights and my kids were dancing to gangnam style and minecraft tunes.

Cheers, tis appreciated

Most of the mix is Rave Breaks I’ll concede, hence the nod to the early 90’s sound you refer to but they are new productions. Future Jungle is similarly paced at 140-150BPM i.e. slower than D&B, there are a couple of in the middle which are true FJ.

Sure, I hear what you’re saying, hopefully you’ve seen my reply above

I’d say the Deekline track is more UKG/2 Step personally.
