That sound is used in Energy Flash as well as a lot of Acid house, techno, trance…it’s all over.
The original very well may have been a 303, but that’s not the important part.
I got kinda close with 1 oscilator in Maschine (I used the Basic Saw sample…everything else was done with parameters on its sampler, but any subtractive synth could do it).
Single voice, low-pass filter with the cutoff set pretty low (I use around 120Hz playing around D2) with a modulation envelope on the Cutoff and Drive parameters (set to near 100%), attack was lowish but not zero (that was the key), medium decay, 0 sustain, 0 release. To do more than single-note stabs, it’d need to be able to glide between notes, but I’m not sure Maschine can’t do that.
Other than that, I heard a reverb/delay of some kind, but I stopped screwing with it at that point because Maschine’s reverbs really fucking blow and I haven’t spent money on a good one yet.
Easiest way would be to get a 303 or an emulator and modulate the filter and drive/distortion…it might even just be the accent.
I’d buy AudioRealism’s ABL2 if I were in the market because I like the sound of technobox2 for the iPhone, but I’d proabably bitch about it because it’s not available as an RTAS in case I decide to move away from Maschine.
If you’re solidly on Reason, I’m sure someone has made a 303-emulating combinator patch based on subtractor.
