So I’m just curious, how long does it take to become a good DJ to the point where you can walk in a club/rave/festival/massive (you get the point) and be able to just bust out this amazing mix on the spot. And another question do DJ’s make their set and practice before they go on stage or is it all on the spot improv? Thanks for your input
Wait, you’re not already big tyme? Lots of years sometimes less, usually more. he more you practice the better you get. Some prep the whole thing some do it on the fly.
I mix an improv mix just about every day - whether it be 20 minutes or an 2 hours, I try and do one, just to get around my music collection more and see how to transition between the songs I pick in about 8 seconds.
you need to start 4 days after your 15th birthday and practise everyday for 5 hours playing all genres so that when you turn 21 you are amazing!
but yeah depends how fast you learn, what you consider to be good, how much confidence you have in yourself, how much money your parents have for those new shiny controllers to keep up with the crowds and how many hours you put it, usually people with a musical backround pick it up faster, sometimes people that are deaf and blind with no hands or feet will pick it up in mins, depends who you are and what way your mind works
Depends how much effort you want to put it.. I noticed my skills increasing when i went from practicing 2 hours a day to 5 hours a day..
But just because somebody practices everyday doesnt mean they are going to be good at what they are practicing. Or some people take longer than others. (Sorry to put a downer on it but its life)
But practice and practice. It took me 4 years to be 100% comfortable behind decks (2 years practicing once a week but 2 years practicing every day. (vinyl and cdj format)
wait wait wait wait no ones actually mentioned the big picture here why many of us started… you shouldnt be worrying about getting amazing, getting gigs, girls, money…
all you should worry about is making sure you have fun, if you dont have fun then the chances of you getting gigs and/or girls are slim to non. no one likes a pissy dj
