How many tracks do you have.

How many tracks do you have.

Hey everyone just did my first lounge gig last night. It went great the atmosphere was super chill and the sound was awesome. My question is how many tracks does everyone here have and how often do you play out. My concern is that if this becomes a regular thing that I’ll eventually run out of tracks. I guess that’s the downside now to the way some crowds work is that they expect hit after hit after hit. It’s not sustainable to always have fresh stuff.

If you include all my CD’s and vinyl I have thousands. In traktor i have something like 500 or so. I play all genres so I can mix it up each night I play (twice a week). Normally I’d say dont worry about it too much as it is inevitable that you’ll play the same tracks if you’re playing in the same place on a regular basis for longer then like an hour or so. But if you’re just playing lounge music all night you’re obviously quite restricted. You’re obviously going to have to buy a few new tracks a week to keep it fresh. I wouldnt stress about it too much as you’re not going to have the same people come every week. Just keep checking with the management if everything is cool music wise. If they have issues its better to ask and find out, as opposed to not asking and the management deciding they want to change it up a bit and look for a new DJ.

i have 4761 songs currently on my itunes after my big clean up operation i did to make more space lol or 20.6 days  thousands of records as well which are mostly in the attic unfortunatly now :disappointed:

thousands

About 80000 tracks of a lot kinds of music and especially eletronic music.

Hasn’t any girl/boy told you it’s quality, not quantity that counts?

I’ve been collecting for 22 years now. It would take me another 22 to count them.

All you need is 30 tracks that you know inside and out.

10000 tracks, 82 gigs. But a lot of that needs to get deleted.

i have alot of music, but I usually pay anywhere from +200 per night when I spin from 10 - 2 am

i got 900+ vinyls, thousands of cd’s, 10’000s of mp3s in serato (3000ish gridded ones in traktor - cbf’d gridding anymore)
i will never run out of tracks to play, if anything i feel theres always not enuff time to play the stuff that i wanna play

I copied a fantastic collection a few years back I have 600 GB from 60s- current day, loads of genres and more than I’ve been able to get stuck into (mainly House)

Have given away around 1000 vinyls I’m left with 500, I DJ 4 nights a week sometimes more and its good having the main tunes from every genre in case of specialist nights.

I did 7 hours on Sat and played 134 tunes so, as the comment above its quality not quantity, but nice to have more than less just in case you need to change the direction of the night.

I only have 1500 or so, but I am a constant and harsh culler. Some of those “tracks” though are 1/2 - 1 hour long mixes that I have a bunch of cue points in…

my iTunes has a little over 15K but I’ve widdled that down to around 2K I’ll actually spin, all tagged, gridded and ready for action.

Yeah my itunes has around 14,000 songs in it… or 51 days worth…

If I needed to i could do a 51 day set…

I could just let me iTunes play and you won’t hear a repeat song (in theory) for a LONG time.

around 20,000 mp3’s 100’s of CD’s of mainly alternative genres rock/indie/electro never played out top 40

1300 gridded in traktor, just over 2500 vinyl and probably 1000 cd’s and my Itunes collection apart from all that is around 8000 tunes from all genres

but in general it’s only the tracks in traktor that I would mix with.

Are we talking about legal stuff or ALL the music?

I have around 26 000 songs, 500 legal. The other 25 500 are just iTunes steak.

Alright I was curious to get a feel for how many people had. As i’m looking to start playing out more I have the fear that i’ll end up playing a lot of the same stuff twice but from my lounge experience I can’t even remember what I played.
