How much of DJing is preparation and how much of it is improvisation?

Lol good one but I do trust a females opinion more than men because if the girls are singing and dancing the guys are dancing to.

I actually do give my mixes to my ex, as well as my current partner for that matter. Both of them are great for telling it how it is.

I totally agree. I usually put a little rating sheet/ questionare in the CD case. It goes like this

On a scale of 1-10 what do you give this mix

If you were in a club and this was what the DJ was playing would you be
A. Dancing B. Singing and Dancing. C. Nodding but enjoying the music. D. you would not be doing any of the above.

Did you think the track selection was acessible or were you waiting for songs you knew

And I like to give mixes to people who don’t generally listen to the gerne I love to play EDM. If they like the mix then I know I’ve got something that will destroy the club that weekend.

i just select tracks, press play on track, when its over. press play on track b.

Not really mixing but hey people still enjoy it

well usually my music changes by the 16th phrase, I usually just listen to my tracks alot and make note if the breaks are longer/shorter then usual that kind of thing, also, I categorize all music by key. Gives more room to improvise.

I prep a lot, but almost never practice.
