Hey all i have lots of song on my computer ( 13 -14 GB) and i would like to know how to chose song for create one consistent mix . What criteria should I consider?
Please help me because I can not mix , my selection is bad
that is why you shouldnāt steal music off the internet, besides the fact that you are robbing the artists (not talking about metallica, talking about electronic producers) you donāt know your own music. and to play a coherant set you start with the tracks that you like and find a way to fit them all together, what you have is 14gb of tracks other people like, I recommend employing the delete button and cutting the fat from the collection, and forget about mixing tunes until you know what you like⦠because at the end of the day that is what club djās do, they only play what they like
Find around 10-20 songs that you like then take the time to LISTEN to the tracks. Pay attention to the elements of music within the individual tracks. Listen to the bass, the highs, the rhythm and the melody. By doing this repeatedly you will discover which song flows into the next, creating a groove which you can then follow and create a decent mix/playlist. Find songs that flow well with each other, complement one another, or even contrast the other.
Try and find āthemesā within tracks and develop those themes or theme throughout the entire mix.
First off, i didnt read that he had stolen his music so Im not sure he should be accused of file sharing. 14gb i not a great deal of music.
Maybe he did steal it but, i dont think theres evidence of it.
Also, why has the OP ādeleted his selectionā, i dont understand.
And lastly, to the OP, dude your question is basically āCan someone tell me how to DJā⦠Have you ever listened/seen a DJ before? Im not being flippant, im kinda amazed at the simplicity of the question.
Anyone else confused or is this just the result of my MASSIVE hangover..?
dude your original statement was a bit douchey but I do understand what you were trying to say but I think it was more than unneccesary. I started out as complete rubbish (as Iām sure most of us did) I couldnāt choose a decent pair of songs to mix for the life of me all Iād do is just snap the cross fader back and forth between skrillex breakdowns. but now Iāve PRACTISED a shit load and know somewhere about what i should play next not everyone knows how to pick a sweet song straight away and I think the best advice is just practise.
No really i have deleted my old selection (music pack from internet) ..
Now i have 20-30 song i listening all on my mp3 gold on my computer, i would really like Beginning in good condition, i know, this is bad, I Should not Have To download this shitty pack illegally. it is true that this is a stupid question but essential because I could not mix because I had too much music unknow, but in the beginning I knew all of my music
damn kid what are you a sheep have you no identity would you jump of a building if these guys told you to.I have 70gig of wav,s and flac files and my collection is growing and guess what i know 90% of it at will the other 10% and am yet to cram it in my head.you said you knew all your old music and you canned it you fool, djing insnt just add water and hey presto its alot of hard work ,nights alone listening to your music developing a style researching new equipment and also promoting your thang.learn the basics of beatmatching and eqing and go from there youre gonna sound horrible your housemates will hate you but practise and practise over time you will find out what tracks work with each other and what wont, but dont expect just because you buy tracks of beatport or juno your gonna advance quicker music is music mate no matter where it comes from
whoops, I meant cut the files you dont like out so they dont get in the way of the tracks you know and love, however, I do think buying your tracks will make you a better dj, as you will be selecting tracks and you will appreciate them more and be less willing to compramise on a so so track, then you can start to build a real style of your own.
No matter where the music came fromā¦your best option is to just listen to it. Whether you bought or not, you still need to listen to it at some point. All these people giving you crap for downloading illegally had to hear the music they spin somewhere first. I canāt imagine they just went to beatport and dropped a few hundred dollars on music and started playing it.
Listen to the music, mark the songs you like, put them in a playlist, whatever. Just start listening to music. When youāve got 10-20 songs you really like, practice with those for a week or soā¦then move on, listen to more music, practice with the new stuff and incorporate the old.
As time goes on, youāll end up with a pile of songs you really like and know how to play. Donāt be afraid to delete tracks from your collection, or move them to a different collection. Use the comment section in the ID3 tag to make notes, etc. The more organized you can be, the better youāll do when you play out.
Most importantly, listen to as much music as you can. I like to use Spotify at work for this. You can go to the www.spotiseek.com website and search for an artist you like and itāll build you a playlist of similar artist. From there, I star the songs I like and add them into a āhey, I could spin that!ā playlist. Then I know what tracks to grab in the future.
