How to mix 4 decks (Techno)?

Hey!

I cant figure out how techno djs play with 4 decks using loops. Can anyone explain how its done properly? Which parts of tracks do they mix together? Doesn´t it get boring if you use a baseline from this track an some other stuff from another track, because its to monotone compared to playing a full track?

Thanks for your help!

sync. And play with eqs. and effects. and be good.

and get serious.

+1 your beatgrids need to be spot on to. And mix by key it makes 4 deck mixing sound a lot better.

And try to stress on the fact that you’re using 4 decks in order to make yourself look special.

And who cares if it’s 4 decks if like you said, a standard track sounds better.

Sometimes, you just need to let the music breathe.

And stop calling it techno :stuck_out_tongue:

SAY TECHNO ONE MORE TIME. I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU motherflutter

What if he actually means Techno ?

I agree, there aren’t many genres that allow you to use 4 decks simultaneously.

Try out diff combos. Maybe: Bassline, percussion, synth, fx/risers/buildup

IMO you only need 3 decks when playing minimal techno, 2 playing all the time and one cued up at the ready. 4 tracks at once is just too muddy unless the tracks are obscenely minimal.

3 with good Eqing, use of delays and reverbs and use of the volume fader’s is usually the max before it starts sounding muddy.

Yeah, mixing BETWEEN 4 tracks is what you should really be aiming for.

I mix HardTechno/Schranz. My setup is 2 regular decks and 2 remix decks with S4. I’d usually grab a melodic/harmonic loop (if there is one) from the outgoing track, EQ it and loop it in the remix deck while my regular set is progressing. Leaves the sense of continuity in the mix if following the harmonic scale rules.

Yeah, I really don’t know where this misconception comes from that all these techno DJs are mixing 4 decks at a time and using mostly loops. I haven’t seen or heard any that really do this.
