I think the present dance music has a huge impact on people today. It’s all over the radio, the internet, commercials, tv, news and so on. So I think they’re pretty familiar with pop/dance music these days. But what I think I will do
is to mix classical old tracks with some modern tracks. But we will see ![]()
I am 35, and I approve of MaxOne’s list. ![]()
Fun stuff to mix, too!
I wouldn’t be surprised if some current top 40 went over well, too. Not To my personal tastes, but I do know a lot of people in my age group (especially girls!) who will get down to some Justin Timberlake or Rhianna.
Throw in some Michael Jackson, too.
Billy Jean!
You have to!
Michael Jackson will definitely be played ![]()
When did 30 become 50… all these tracks are way too inappropriate. The best thing to do is talk to the guy who’s birthday it is and ask them what they like by sending them a list of a few genres and ask them to pick out the ones they like the most, from there you can guess the rest.
Check out GTA radio station playlists.
Seriously
I’d also say 90’s stuff is way more fitting for 35 year old, think about it, born in 1978
The biggest thing to remember with this gig is that you’re playing for the whole room, not just the birthday boy. He won’t want to hear tunes that only he likes and have a dead party.
This gig will take skill reading the room and understanding what will work when and with who.
Honestly you’d be better sidestepping it for now. No worse feeling than a bad gig.
If you do decide to go ahead I’d go in with loads of 90s (house r&b Pop etc)some indie classics from 80s to present, a selection of quality disco, some modern pop…in fact a multitude of genres.
These kind of gigs demand a huge library with an even bigger knowledge of music.
Play this.
It’s great for 45 y/o’s ![]()

1+. I loved those tracks on the GTA radio, I actually have a GTA playlist of nearly all tracks on the radio from the old GTA games in spotify. Very smooth music!
Not everyone at the party will be 35 dude. Play around to all ages and groups. Don’t just stick to an 80’s party. Make sure you hit current stuff too, hes 35 not dead and out of music.
Acieeeeeed! This 46 year old would be cranking that mix loudly in my office right now but I’m concerned it would scare the 22 yr old in the next office.
Speaking of…
Always goes over well at birthdays when they’re getting up there in age, heh.
Don’t forget it’s 2013 now; 35 year olds were the people who were out raving in the late 90s/early 2000s, so your best bet will be Trance/Techno from around that time period, not 70s/80s cheese.
You want to play stuff from their prime, not when they were 6. Actually, 35 is still pretty contemporary. Just play good music.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That x1000.
