This is complete bullshit, ok friday night me and my girl getting ready to meet up with some friends and head down to the club. It was one of her bestfriends bday and she has never been to one. So we chose to go to this club intown called sammy ts, the dj is wack (uses itunes and plays old shit) but its still the biggest club in huntsville alabama.
So we walking down the street to get ready to come in and me and i know they are strict on letting black people in the club but i have gotten in once before, cause i was with a diverse group of friends. So same situation me and my friends looking like a united nations metting walking into the club, the seem to be letting my other black friends in, but they flashed them there military id’s, my girl gets in cause she is 21, but when its my turn to get in, he tells me NO.
So I politely ask him whats the issue and he says my pants are to baggy. But they were not I made sure I went strictly by the dress code cause I know how the club is. He was like get a belt, So I go and get a belt off my friend, put it on and head back in and he still says no. He was like your pants are to long you still cant get in. I was like what the hell is that supposed to mean, he was just what ever about it. So I am pissed off from hell and back and he lets all my friends in but not me which I think is super fucked up. Also every white guy he let in had holes in there jeans and they were stepping all over the backs of there jeans but they still got it. I mean if my jeans were a little tighter and shorter I would have been showing more curves than a fuckin female.
So all my friends are trying to talk to him and see if he can let me slide in and he would not give them a straight answer so I am getting pissed and I start balling up my fist, my girl saw me and my temper rising, and drags me outside.
I think if I wasn’t worried about my future I would have hit his fat ass in his face and just walked out. But I appreciate the friends I got even my non black friends were flippin out that I didn’t get in. So while we were waiting outside to figure out what to do, I was telling alot of people what happend and told them I dj at another club and they should come to that. So hopefully they do check it out.
I am just really really pissed off, I know my town racisim is still alive, but you figure a club is looking to get money I mean I wouldn’t care if they were black or white, as long as they didn’t act a fool thats money in my pocket.
yea i know its complete bullshit, like i have fought it since I have lived in alabama, but I guess now that I am older and I realize why they are really doing it, it just pisses me off from hell and back. I just want to leave this fuckin state
crazy shit … i’m in the Uk and was only just talking about this the other day with my girlfriend. There was a programme on TV here about washington and how bad it is. I had no idea how bad it was out there still. I thought it was bad here but nothing like what i was seeing on the tv (although the tv may have been puttting a bit of a spin on things, i dont know)
man i feel you, in some clubs in china not all but few dont let foreigners inside.
reminds me of a story also in brisbane where i used to study english where the bouncer didnt let me in cause i had black pants on.
and another didnt let me in cause my french passport wasnt not a valid proof of ID that was fucking hillarious too.
Man dont worry racism is everywhere wether its the US, France, China or elsewhere still have some idiots around and it seems to be on the increase.
Thats sucks man, this story reminds me of that scene from knock up. The security is giving the explanation of how many black people are allowed to go in.
The best thing to do is not argue with security. Its not there choice who comes in, its the owner/promoter. They tell the security what to do, and thats the bottom line. The way I see it as a promoter is…your coming to my home and spending money, it doesnt matter what color you are as long as you respect the venue and pay in cash or credit. Here in L.A. you still see that type of shit, which is stupid, but what can you do?
I can’t claim to empathize fully. I’ve never experienced racism personally.
What I can say though is how much narrow minded people like the bouncer you had to deal with cause me to lose faith in humanity.
Society IS divided into strata, but just not in the way backward thinking and backward living people like said bouncer think it is. It’s divided into people who are the dregs of the gene pool in terms of ideas and forward thinking.
They let small ideas into their small minds and live their small lives and only find relief in trying to degrade the lives of us who have accepted a brighter future and embrace the world in ways they will never understand. We aren’t afraid to broaden our minds, listen to new music, hear new ideas and if not understand, at least accept the view that we are being presented with.
Living is an art. There are those who live it cheaply, waste it on negativity. And there are those of us, like the good folks of this board, who stand back and eye up the full canvas, take a breath, and realise the beauty of participating in it as fully as we can.
yea the dj sucks but my girl just wanted to go out and have a good time. JesC I can kind of feel what you are saying, but trust me I was by dress code, i wasn’t acting a fool while in line or anything. Yea they have the right to turn me away but if they are letting in white people that are not by dress code they should not be able to enter, but I have never seen a white person or heard about any white person getting turned away from that club.
X it didnt matter if you were within dress code, they just didnt want any black folks in the club/bar. Dont sweat it man, my Dress style is 50’s vintage (greaser) and I get shit all the time. I usually wear a black t-shirt, dark denim 501s & county shoes, and the pomp (hair do)
Like you said, focus on your night, and you that as an example of what NOT to do at your venue.
Some clubs do have to have some type of dress code. I’ve seen at events that I’ve help do security @ the door alot of people try to get into clubs in sweats, sandals/slippers and so on. Plus being in L.A., gang attire is a big no no, to prevent fights or crew know what city or crew they are representing
Ya, whenever I’m asked where I’m from, I gotta check myself and I usually tell people I’m from Camarillo. Last time I told someone I was from the 818, the guy tried to start shit and promptly received an ass beating from security. Out in the valley racism and gangland go hand in hand… sux being asian in an area with Neo Nazis, Ar Nation, and Nortenos everywhere. I tend to get cold stares alot unless i’m behind the decks, at which point I’m no longer a cat from the valley, I’m Damien; the harbinger of Cthulu… ok, enough drunk ranting
