In the market for a laptop(non-apple) I need some help as to what to get spec wise

Hi. I want to buy a laptop to strictly dj with. I know Macs are the normal go to, but lack of funds just doesn’t allow it. What I’m looking for here is some help as to what specs I should use. Right now I’m djing with a desktop with an APC40, which I love. I use traktor pro2 right now because I’m comfortable with it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Are you planning on using it for anything other than DJing?

try to buy a thinkpad! 4gb ram and a hdd 7200 rpm and you´re ready to fly

Are u in the uk?

my windows laptop was fairly cheap and runs like a dream with traktor, serato, ableton, even when running the bridge. HP G62 £300, 60gb ssd £50, 8gb ram £40, and an optibay for my original hard drive, honestly runs like a tank

I’ve had great results with the Thinkpad Series, The Dell Precision M Series, and the Asus G Series. And of course the MBP, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.

So far the Dell Precision M6400 is my favorite laptop I’ve ever used besides some of the Sagar machines, but those are just as much as Macs.

I second this notion!

I roll a Thinkpad for work (Heavy 3D graphics work), and they’re as solid as they come.
Seen them run over by cars, thrown down stairs, etc. And live.

Whatever you get for the laptop, make sure to get an SSD instead of a hard drive. It makes a huge difference.

If by huge difference you mean marginally faster boot times and song analyze times, then sure.

Otherwise… totally unnecessary and oftentimes prohibitively expensive if you want a large HD.

Not just that, but overall responsiveness. I wouldn’t go back, at least, but YMMV.

I prefer SSD but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.
