Industry Standard Radio Mic

Industry Standard Radio Mic

Does anyone know the idustry standard mic used in radio broadcasting? The student radio station I work with has decided to shell out for some new ones, will be used for vocals, not live music.

Cheers.

no clue but a quick google search yielded a funny result:

hehe good luck with it!

Yeh, I had no idea where to look first so I posted it on the two forums I visit most.

Get a Neumann, especially the broadcasting series mics

As a broadcast engineer I can recommend the Rode Broadcaster microphone. They are cheap (depends on budget, I know) and sound pretty well. Especially for radio.

You could also try Shure SM7b or EV RE-20. But I try to avoid these cause I dont like the sound.

At the television station where I work we use

Sony ECM-44 & 55B lavs (Studio hardwired mics)
Sennheiser Evolution G3 Wireless and Lectrosonic Wireless (Field Gear)

The Sony units are ridiculous expensive and will set you back about 300 usd

The handheld units we give our field reporters are the EV N/D 267a there not too bad not too expensive and so far handle the abuse they get from daily use…

Jokingly, if you ever want to test the rigidity and quality of electronics give it to our news department, they are some of the hardest abusers of equipment…
