iPad 2

iPad 2

iPad 2 is out… Cameras, new processor, 33% thinner, new case, now in white, AND NO F*CKING USB.

Cool new features, but since I use it as a midi controller and college notes the only change that is worth any money is the 33% slimmer… Which isn’t worth $500 for me… Waiting another year for the 3.0

O.o, that’s crazy. I like the white.

Coldfuzion when you buy an ipad 2…

Can i have it?

Sure bro, but don’t forget you owe me the music first!

Yes, a USB port would certainly be nice, but it’s not really needed. If you haven’t seen those yet, check out the videos posted in the article below for some ideas regarding connectivity.

Massively underwhelmed.

They promise much bigger CPU performance and 5.1 audio out.
Guess what - Headphones monitoring for the iTraktor

If you want usb 3.0, and run dj softwares, better go for an Acer Iconia Dual touchscreen laptop..

5.1 out is pretty huge, for sure, though its intended market is not DJs but people who want to plug their ipads into home theatre systems. That said, DJ software should quickly start taking advantage of that; though I’m not even sure where to find the right adapter that would turn that tiny mini outlet into multiple usable audio signals?

→ never mind, I found it: “Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through with Apple Digital AV Adapter (sold separately)” I guess from Apple StockExaminer - AI-Powered Stock Chatbot

@Rasti

Nice link - didn’t know such a product exists!

but as apple said:

Ipad is a totally different product.

oh, and not to forget if it’s shiny and made by Apple - I want it! LOL, but true for many of us.

All the bulk and weight of an ordinary laptop but without the keyboard! And access to exactly none of the iApps (or whatever theyre called) that make the ipad interesting in the first place! IMHO ipads are just a different product for a different market – comparing it to any laptop is pretty much beside the point.

@proben - the significance of 5.1 is not the built-in audio interface, but the fact that apple enables multi channel CoreAudio in iOS 4.3.

that means that:

  1. all class compliant USB audio interfaces & controllers will now be usable immediately - example djay with Spin (think it’s a class compliant audio I/O?).
  2. manufacturers can start building drivers for non-class compliant devices, which when approved in AppStore will be available

plus, do not underestimate Apple affinity & support for musicians. Spin & Djay are officially sold in Apple Stores. Garage Band is now part of iOS 4.3 for iPad!

This Ipad represents the future of computing for Apple. X86 based processors and the relationship with Intel will be short lived. Apple did not buy PA Semi to keep buying processors from Intel. Multi core based arm processors ARE THE FUTURE especially for personal devices. Apple makes money on I phones , I pads and I pods…Macs not really!
get used to them! Intel WILL FOLLOW SUITE OR GET LEFT BEHIND. Quad core Ipads and 8 core arm processors in Macs thats the future!

I know.. by now its best use is as a midi controller IMHO

Same screen resolution? Think I’m waiting for the next one. I just can’t justify it now. As for the OP using it to take college notes, how the hell do you type quickly enough with it?

College must be easier these days. I had to write that shit down with a pen.

The voice of reason.

 What’s a pen?

I’m really disappointed in the iPad, which is why I’m going with an android tablet. Already have the Notion Ink Adam on pre-order, should be here in a few weeks! 10" touchscreen, hdmi out, usb ports, 180 degree swivel camera, pixel qi screen, oh man, it’s going to be some fun! I’m planning on adding this into my rig, have a few different ideas. Good thing about this tablet is if Android doesn’t work for me they are working on porting linux over to it, which will open up all sorts of options too.

Apple’s innovative, but the lack of options on their personal devices will always leave them a step behind while still ahead. Android = dev/tweaker’s playground of options…

I agree. The update in speed and other changes were on spot, although I feel as if the Camera was a waste. They just didn’t really add anything that would help me at all, nor did they fix any of my complaints ;-/
