Is it morally correct?

Morning everyone,

I’ll be playing on this saturday quite a long set, 6 to 7 hours, and a friend of mine asked me if i could play some commercial music too. Since it is a party for a friend (and obviously I’m not asking for any kind of money) and I really don’t like EDM commercial music, is it morally correct to “”“play”“” a pre-recorded set for the first 2 hours (and have the time to spend some quality time with some chicks :sunglasses: …even if I won’t, because I’m a sociopathic motherfu**er)?

yeah totally acceptable in my book.

Its only lame if you are pretending to DJ while the pre-recorded mix is on.

If you do that, then you further devalue the craft of DJing and give weight to the people who think DJing is all fake.

Play the boring EDM before your set, then show people how much better your sound and flow is with your craft.

Nothing wrong with letting the shite play so long as you aren’t playing it (technically) :stuck_out_tongue:

Just hit cruise mode and chill with your friends, just dont make believe youre scratching/mixing while its playing.

exactly. nothing wrong unless you are pretending. I usually leave a set playing for the first hour while people are still coming and we are arranging the final details.

i generally start playing a pre-recorded set, if i am still setting up at the event. just something to keep the music going so its not dead silent… agian like everyone else said, do not pretend to DJ that set lol

The fact you’re asking this question is a good sign that you care.

You can play a CD for as long as you want.

But if your plan is to stand anywhere near the decks chatting to women while the CD is on, then you are all that is wrong with the world… :wink:

Fun story…

A few years ago I used M-Audio Torq as a DVS software (worst ever btw!)
As it crashed all the time I had a mix CD in the CDJ 1000 mk3 all the time.
So while playing Kelis - Trick me, fuckin Torq crashed again. Dead silence in the huge room (500 people) everybody looking at us. We both in Santa Claus costumes, drunk as hell. I pull up the fader of the CDJ, hit play…
The mix starts with a wicked edit of Kelis - Trick me. Whole place goes bananas, everybody thought we did some bad ass live mashup and just cutted out a bit to make some more tension, so we kept on standing there, fiddling around with the computer and the faders. As I know the mix is really nice I just look at my buddy and tell him: Fuck it, lets go to the dancefloor a bit and then setup again to go on playing. We let the music play, dance for 5-10 minutes, come back, mix out of the CD and have fun. No regrets 10/10 would do again!

I’ve done this at basically every house party I’ve done. Sometimes, you just want to wander around and good off. I’ll probably do this on saturday for a party as well…spin for a bit, play a recorded mix for a bit, spin a bit longer, recorded for a while…

As long as you’re not passing the mix off as being live and aren’t getting paid to DJ the event, who cares?

Just be up front about it and do your set after. All good !
