Is Midi DJing Destroying Dance Culture ?

Thats Amazing I need one.

In my opinion, ‘dance culture’ is directly related to ‘ecstasy culture’ and as a result when ecstasy use is high, so is the attendance at EDM parties. The attendance at some of the parties in our town was so low about 2 years ago due to no drugs, Dubfire refused to play because there werent enough people there and Timmy Stewart had to play all night, but then came Mephedrone, which seemed to revitalise the scene because so many people were on it, and parties were selling out weeks in advance. Just my humble opinion, the culture fluctuates depending on what drugs are available at the time.

Hey dueer I listened to your mix “Wrong Chris - Amalgamate” really nice. I absolutely love really electronic sounding music, this was just the ticket.

I think you may of touched on something there, however I think that people who really enjoy dance music will always be there no matter what the drug situation is.

Thats true, but we are the humble few! Most people who go to see a DJ will be going because of the drugs also, and if theres no drugs they might as well just sit in and get drunk in the house or go to a club where its a fiver in to see a local DJ as opposed to 20 quid into a big name DJ. the worst is what happened a few years back when ecstacy became very scarce in my town, and ketamine started to take off… even when i go to raves now i spend half my night trying to avoid people hitting K holes… theres what i believe.
Ketamine killed dance culture. everyone blame Ketamine. not MIDI.

nice one, cheers

Do fast cars destroy driving culture?

No, but slow cars do. Especially when they’re in front of the fast ones. :sunglasses:

It’s an age old question people who are scared of change ask when something new comes along which is a threat to them.

In short, no it’s not destroying dance culture. What’s destroying the culture in narrow minded individuals who think the way it was done in the 70s and 80s is how it should still be done, refusing to accept technology and possibilities move on. The only way to improve and get the best out of things is to push boundaries, which is all technology does.

" What’s destroying the culture in narrow minded individuals who think the way it was done in the 70s and 80s is how it should still be done, refusing to accept technology and possibilities move on. "

I so agree with you there some people are just so narrow minded.

No is the easy answer, it’s just progression,
you should embrace new tech not dismiss it

not down under… i blamed ghb and ice for destroying the club culture here.

the big ‘rave’ clubs in melbourne would pack out every week back in 01-03, then ghb came onto the scene which started the demise, then the ice came and put the nails into the coffin.

people would spend the majority of the night out in their cars in the carparks smoking ice. after a while everyone skipped going out all together and would just go around to peoples houses and smoke.

one of the bigger melbourne club nights would sell out (approx 1500-2000 punters) every week during that 01-03 period. and we had internationals playing at least 2 fridays a month early in the piece and there was a while there in 02-03 that we had at least one international every friday night.

Am from the uk whats “ice” neverheard of it here

Dance culture died in 1992

Since then it’s been crap

Ice = crystal meth? Surely not

I think so, Dog the Bounter Hunter is always chasing people who are on ‘ice’

i’m sure the young punks who are just popping their e cherries will say the same thing about 2011 ten years down the road lol.

Naw it was all downhill after 1988 :disappointed:

urgh ok i get it now.

ice/crystal same shit
