Is there a term for this music/genre yet?

That. It seemed to start with Nari & Milani’s Atom and Jewelz & Scott Sparks Toxic, I’ve heard a few others in recent months but no names. Everyone calls it prog house but it’s not, and I’m not searching through every prog house song ever to find these things because I absolutely DESPISE prog house and cut+paste massacre it has become. Surely there must be a term floating round now for these kind of tracks?

Tubular Bellcore?

Blue Man Groupstep?

Melbourne House

Melbourne Electro

Electro Bounce

Subkick Electro

Here’s a few links to check and makes sure we’re on the same page:

It’s just progressive house without vocals.

The only difference between a track like that and a track like Levels is that the former is towards the heavy end of the genre, whereas Levels is softer. It’s like the difference between a Russell Watson track and a Pink one. They’re both Pop, but completely different ends of the scale. This ridiculous genrebation - where people just start adding words to the beginning or end of existing genres, to further subcategorize - which is going on these days can do one as far as I’m concerned. Because if it carries on like this, sooner or later, we’ll have “Uplifting Melodic Vocal Progressive House Core Step”.

Oh, and the biggest example of this part of the progressive house genre is Sandro Silva & Quintino - Epic.

Indeed. Although personally I prefer the term “Trance”, even if it’s not 140 bpm anymore :disappointed:

It’s certainly nothing at all like Progressive House or Trance. Prof Strange seems to be on the right track.

OH wow I COMPLETELY forgot about Epic.

But yes Prof Strange is completely on this. That’s four terms I can slap into Google to find more of what I’m liking!

mdcdesign, subgenre’s are a thing and always have been. In fact, pop is not a genre, just a collection of genres that have mainstream selling power.

I’d say, as in the other thread, rhythmic synth house.

Here’s one of my faves.

The reason I’m looking is because I played the first track I posted inadvertently in a mash up with Ode to Oi and the crowd went mental, totally didn’t expect it, and with a bit of further toe dipping I found that they love those filthy subkick drops every now and then, so I’m just tying to build up a little arsenal to pepper my sets with because it is a commercial club and I don’t want to kill pe- Holy crud that Cango track above is filthy.

EDIT: LRAD was the moment I realised the sound is going to be mainstream by the end of the year. I can hear Pitbull warming up as we speak.

See “dutch” and “Dirty Dutch” are also terms I hear a lot but some of that stuff just sounds like standard Electro House to me. There should be a genre police who decide and if you mess up they come around to your house and… Break your knees or something.

@sambo watch this.

This is FULL of this kind of tracks

Isn’t it? I actually love a bootleg extended mix that came out before the full track better, here it is:

Oh god please no…

Listen to this:

It’s a one minute mashup of 15 Beatport charted tracks that was made to mock how most Beatport Top100 tracks sound remarkably similar, but you might be able to get something useful out of it. On a totally unrelated note, he’s right and the mashup is pretty hilarious.

The reason all these tracks sound the same, by the way, is because they’re all made using samples from here:

http://refx.com/products/vengeance/samples/

Usually the “Essential Clubsounds” packs.

I would strongly believe that at least the synths are made from scratch.. It’s not that hard in massive to do a plucky synth and distort it to hell and beyond

Several big tracks are DEFINITELY based on the Vengeance samples. The synth in Epic is probably the most well-known example of this. It’s “VEC1 Sounds 074 E.wav” from the Essential Clubsounds Vol 1 pack
