I just got word from my bank that the check I got from the club I work at for Sat. nights gig was returned NSF.
Emailed owner and no response yet. 
WTF?!?!
what? a check? well maybe this common where you live but over here we get payed in cash or via band transfer.

I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. He/she probably forgot about an automatic bill pay from checking for insurance, lease, or whatever.
You can call his bank and see if the check would clear rather than depositing it. I would give it a week or so If funds aren’t available, then contact the local District Attorney’s check enforcement unit. Usually there is a form letter you send the bad check writer via certified mail. In that letter you state the fee for the bounced check ($30 here) etc and they have so many days to make payment Do not accept partial payment, as that will usually complicate the collection process If the cert. letter doesn’t get your $ then you turn everything over to the DA, and they will get the money for you.
For guest DJ it can be both cash and check around here. Cash typically for the smaller clubs and bars. Checks for the larger clubs. For a residency though, its pretty standard to get a check and fill out a W2 as a contractor.
Well having owned a business myself in the past. I know that you typically have 2-3 accounts. One being a segregated payroll account. I am thinking, more hoping, that a transfer didn’t happen to cover it and not a sign that the club is going under. I kinda like this club and want to keep working there.
Well if I get no response from the owner, I will go this route. For now, I am not too worried, just a little ticked off.

the entire north american area still uses cheques for some ridiculous reason. Worked for 6 months in Vancouver and for the 1st time in my 15 years of employment got paid by cheque. Very quaint.

Actually the only thing that doesn’t make sense in american english is when they say “I could care less”. It says the exact opposite of what they are trying to convey. HOW DO PEOPLE NOT NOTICE THIS!?
