Johnny Drama’s work space

Hey DJTT’ers,

Finaly I took some time to post my setup.

Started in 2000 (being a student) and using PCDJ Red + controller

Then I signed my contract in 2002 and bought a set of cdj800’s (just came out) & stanton smx 501.

Loved that setup, that SMX was a good mixer (hybrid scratch) with 100% kill on the eq’s & a decent crossfader. Build like a tank, never had any problems with that mixer. I had to repair one of my cdj’s (new laser unit).

In 2005 I had GAS after playing with a DJM 909 and had to get one… FANTASIC mixer, one of a kind and sometimes I miss it in my setup. The SMX became a gift for my little brother in law and I rocked that 909 like there was no tomorrow. I still have it as backup mixer.

I was never cured from GAS and having a good job helped in financing my spending habit.

So 2006 I bought two American Audio HTD 4.5 (superOEM) for cheap and switched my 909 to a Xone 92r.
What can I say…if you need 4 channels the 92 is all you need…EVER !
That analogue sound is incredible and the build quality is the best i’ve seen.

Around 2008 the laptop was added to my setup with traktor scratch.
I loved TS from the beginning and it changed my dj-ing forever…never left that system and use it now more then ever.

In 2010 my old but trustworthy cdj800’s were sold & I bought a set of cdj850’s.

Loved the HID options & the player but sold these after 2 weeks to get a set of 2000’s

This is how my current setup looks like (added a X1 & monitors):

No GAS at the moment, I tried a DB2 & DB4 but not my thing…and I prefer the sound of the 92.
Maybe my MBP will get an update but that will be it, even with the possibility of cdj2000 nexus on their way.

I love to discuss gear, so if you have a question about my setup or previous gear I owned…please shoot.

Thanks for reading & have a great weekend !

nice setup

very nice set-up! how’re you finding the OEM’s? are you still using them even with the 2000’s?

Very clean set up!

I like them, for dj purpose they are perfect and untill my cdj2000 plays vinyl these are here to stay.
Another plus is that I don’t have to take my sl1200’s for gigs and I only paid 300 euro for a mint PAIR.

Some +'s:

Cheap !
Removable RCA
Heavy on the torq (instant start like a cd-player)
Looks & build quality

Some -'s:

Rumble
The paint is delicate
No dustcovers

Thanks for the replies !

More torque than the technics ?
I wouldn’t describe my 1210 as instant start like a cd player, so I’m very intrested

awesome setup.

Everythings very clean! Nice! I only wondered if your desk really has the right height for you? It somehow loos a bit low…

No GAS at the moment? I can help you: Never thought about the Native Instruments F1 or Maschine?

Yes, almost double the torque and I think the superOEM’s are @ full speed in 1/8 of a turn.
Feel free to contact me if you want to try them out.

Strange, I know…but no GAS atm.
I tried a Maschine from a friend, great stuff but not for me. Will give the F1 a try but atm my X1 covers all my needs.

Always looking to buy stuff, still need some things:

UDG record bags, Fisher Price portable turntable, record cleaning machine, …

The desk is indeed a bit lowered because I have a bad back and i’m in a chair most of the time when dj-ing.
We will be moving in a few months and my dad is building a new table with a pneumatic system for in the new house/workplace.

Again, thanks for the replies fella’s !

Aright. I can imagine that not everybody feels the need to integrate lots of samples or live drums into their performance. This might also already leave the core of DJing somehow.
Some other suggestions would be Pioneer DJM 2000 or Pioneer RMX-1000 but I can totally understand if you’re already quite happy with what you got (I would definitely be  )

 Having a chair at hand during DJing in your own bedroom is one of the major secrets of bedroom DJing. There is always one next to my Dj booth
The pneumatic table system sounds deluxe. Very nice! I can imagine it’s very useful when DJing to adapt the table height!
